Lead a dynamic team of specialised legal officers while pioneering the legal framework for NSW's transportation future. As Director Legal Projects & Development, you'll deliver sophisticated, high-value legal solutions across construction, property, and planning matters for the entire Transport Portfolio, including Sydney Trains and NSW Trains.

 

 

Your Pioneering Opportunity

This is more than a leadership role – it's a chance to architect the legal foundation for NSW Motorways as a new government entity. You'll be building from the ground up, establishing relationships, defining service parameters, and creating the legal function that will support one of NSW's most significant infrastructure developments.

With your deep construction law expertise (front-end focus), you'll shape how legal services are delivered in this emerging practice area, ensuring our legal framework evolves alongside NSW's expanding motorway network. The role leads a team of specialised legal officers, delivering complex, high quality, high value, timely and solutions-focused legal services and independent advice in the Projects, Development and Planning Legal team. The role specialises in providing construction, property and planning advice to the Transport Portfolio, including Sydney Trains and NSW Trains.


Key accountabilities

.

  • Provide leadership and expert legal advice to the Secretary, Senior Executives and Manager and lead complex legal negotiations to facilitate the management and resolution of a diverse range of the project, operational, legislative, parliamentary, and other legal matters impacting Transport’s capacity to achieve its strategic goals.

  • Direct the research, analysis and interpretation of complex project, operational, legislative, and legal issues, prepare high-quality and articulate submissions, reviews and recommendations that add value to decision-makers, enhance the decision-making process, and improve the efficacy of Transport’s activities and impact on decision-makers stakeholders.

  • Take a leading role in client teams, identifying legal risks, providing solution-oriented legal advice and drafting and contribute as a senior team member to coordinate and influence outcomes that align to organisational and commercial objectives and parameters, ensuring that strategic legal risks are escalated to the manager.

About you

You will have

Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in at least one of the following:

  • Construction law (front end) preferred
  • Property law
  • Planning/environment law

  • Hold a current unrestricted practising certificate.

  • A NSW practising certificate will be required for some roles.

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant legal experience.

  • Extensive experience with infrastructure development, including Government Approvals and Unsolicited Proposal Rules.
