We are seeking a reliable and proactive Weighbridge Operator to join our dedicated team at the Port of Teignmouth. This is a key customer-facing role ensuring the smooth and compliant operation of our weighbridge facility.

 

You will be operating the weighbridge system efficiently and accurately, acting as the first point of contact for drivers and visitors, while ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and ABP policies.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the weighbridge system to process incoming and outgoing vehicles.
  • Accurately record weights, issue tickets, and maintain TASCC compliance.
  • Compile stock reports for commodities arriving by ship and road.
  • Ensure compliance with Trading Standards and the Weights and Measures Act.
  • Direct site traffic and maintain security awareness.
  • Provide excellent customer service to drivers, visitors, and agencies.
  • Maintain up-to-date handover and security logs.
  • Report non-conforming vehicles and system anomalies.
  • Support general administrative duties including answering calls and handling queries.
  • Participate in toolbox talks and contribute to risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Cover weekend shifts and provide holiday/sickness cover for colleagues.

 

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and web-based systems.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Proven ability to work safely and responsibly.
  • Flexible and reliable, with excellent timekeeping.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new systems and procedures.
  • A proactive team player who contributes positively to the wider operations team.
  • Ability to accurately record data, including weighbridge tickets, ensuring task compliance.
  • Strong awareness of site activity and security, with a proactive approach to reporting concerns.

 

Working Pattern

  • Part of a team of 3 Weighbridge Operators.
  • 5-day working week with alternating shifts (11:00–14:00 or 14:00–17:00).
  • Weekend cover required on a rotational basis (1 in 3 weekends).
  • Average of 20 hours per week over the year.
  • Flexibility to cover holidays and sickness.
