Description
We are looking for a well-rounded tool and die Machinist to join our team in Manteca, CA. The position is heavily geared toward repairing and maintaining progressive dies, using manual mills, lathes, and grinders. Experience in a Stamping facility or Press Room would be very helpful to excel in this position. You will be joining a small maintenance team and will need to work well with others.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate conventional lathe, milling, and surface grinding machines to manufacture precision parts.
- Interpret and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and technical specifications.
- Select appropriate tools, cutting speeds, feeds, and machining methods for each job.
- Perform precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision instruments.
- Build, and repair tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
- Verify dimensions, surface finishes, and overall quality of machined parts.
- Machine, fit, and assemble precision components for molds and dies.
- Heat-treat, harden, and finish tool steel and other materials as required.
- Troubleshoot and repair damaged or worn tools and dies.
- Conduct tryouts and test run to ensure proper function of tools and dies.
- Modify and improve existing tools and die for efficiency and quality.
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools, dies, and shop equipment.
- Use of a database to record all activities and maintenance performed.
- Work with production teams to resolve tooling and manufacturing issues.
- Use of the forklift for handling and transporting stamping dies.
- Responsible for maintaining the order, cleanliness and organization of the die storage area.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- 5 years minimum journeymen level machinist
- Tool and Die: 2 years (Required)
- Experience with CNC mill, Manual mill, Lathe, Grinder
- Knowledge in metal stamping process is a plus
- Proven experience as a machinist operating conventional lathe, milling, and surface grinding machines.
Skills and Competencies:

- Basic math skills and understanding of machining calculations.
- Must have good communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of machining, tool steels, and heat treatment processes.

- Attention to detail to ensure that parts are produced accurately and quality standards are met.
- Ability to work under pressure and work in a fast-paced environment is essential.
- Mechanical skills, Knowledge of machinery operation and maintenance is required.
- Skilled in using precision measurement tools.
- Problem-solving skills to identify and correct technical problems.
Work Environment:
This position is in a manufacturing setting with exposure to loud machinery, moving equipment, and varying temperatures. The work environment requires adherence to safety protocols. The position involves working near mechanical equipment, handling chemicals, tools, and occasionally working in confined spaces or elevated areas.
Physical Demands:
The role requires the ability to handle various physical demands, including:
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent walking, bending, standing, kneeling.
- Must be able to handle the use of hand and power tools and have the physical dexterity to handle small parts.
- Must be able to work in elevated, confined, or hard-to-reach areas during repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Exposure to varying temperatures, including heat, cold, and humidity.
- Strict adherence to company safety protocols, including the use of proper lifting techniques and following safety procedures when operating tools, machinery, and handling equipment.
Compensation:
This position is non-exempt and complies with California's wage and hour laws. Compensation for this role ranges from $25 to $28 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
