NOTE: This recruitment & vacancy is for the general facilities assignment (rather than primarily assigned to the Recreation & Aquatics facility).
JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
Positions assigned to this class are responsible for performing, leading, and overseeing skilled activities related to the work of various trades to include electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, or commercial aquatic equipment, depending on assignment.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a senior level facilities maintenance classification in the maintenance and operations job family where tasks and assignments are performed using a variety of procedures and techniques. This is the advanced journey level that is fully competent in the technical/functional aspects of facilities or aquatics maintenance. Work usually involves the application of sound technical principles and best practices associated with planning, diagnosis, troubleshooting and problem solving. Incumbents perform varied assignments requiring advanced journey level knowledge in facilities or aquatics maintenance.
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town’s needs.
- Installs, inspects, troubleshoots, repairs and/or regulates equipment, fixtures, systems, facilities, and/or grounds by making journey level trades repairs or installations depending on area of assignment/expertise.
- Oversees and inspects work of contractors to ensure quality and compliance with terms of contracts.
- Maintains and repairs buildings, aquatics center and pool equipment, and other facilities.
- Participates in the construction and repair of fencing, office furniture, shelving, windows, doors and lock assemblies.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains plumbing systems including plumbing fixtures, water lines, and sewer lines.
- Operates and maintains swimming pool mechanical systems, including filtering, chemical control, pumping, cleaning, electrical, and plumbing systems (assigned to Aquatics Center).
- Performs daily inspection on all aquatics equipment (water slides, diving boards, etc) and schedules or performs repair as necessary (assigned to Aquatics Center).
- Performs maintenance and repair work on swimming pool decks, pool walls, and floor areas (assigned to Aquatics Center).
- Assists in preparing bids and calculating costs for various projects.
- Assists with purchases of supplies and materials needed for projects.
- Maintains records on time, labor and materials.
- Remodels, renovates, designs, fabricates, estimates, constructs, and maintains structural elements including cabinets, lockers, bookcases, walls, partitions, ceilings, roofs, windows, doors, overhead and roll up doors, electronic/electrical door openers, laminate and solid surface counter tops, floors (carpet, vinyl, ceramic, and wood) and welding.
- Responds to and completes assigned work orders involving emergency, routine, basic or complex preventive maintenance.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS(at job entry)
Education and Experience:
A High School Diploma or GED; and 3 years of related journey-level experience. For general Facilities assignment, 3 years of related experience includes commercial/industrial maintenance.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Driver's License;
- Licensure in a trade;
- Current E.P.A. refrigerant handler’s license (Class 2 or universal) or have the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire or promotion date;
- Maintain all certifications/licenses required at job entry.
Special Requirements:
- This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position by Human Resources, per State and/or Federal Law. Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to undergo testing for alcohol and controlled substances within twenty-four (24) hours of the offer.
KNOWLEDGE
- Local, state, and federal codes and regulations, including National Electrical Code and relevant Town codes;
- Electrical construction and maintenance including installation of all sizes of electrical conduit, cables, wires, switches, automatic starting equipment and pole line construction;
- Electrical and motorized systems including HVAC systems, pumps, generators and other facility equipment;
- Applicable equipment operations;
- Energy management systems;
- Digital management systems;
- Tools, equipment, and materials relevant to area of assignment;
- Occupational hazards and safe working practices;
- Federal, State and County OSHA regulations and City policies regarding safe work practices relating to use of power tools, ladders and power lifts, heavy equipment and hazardous chemicals.

- Locating and adjusting faulty or defective electrical systems and equipment;

- Applying building and equipment repair techniques;
- Estimating time and material requirements of work projects;
- Using applicable hand and power tools and equipment related to area of assignment including forklifts, scissors lifts and ladders;
- Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and other interested parties sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
