About the Department
The Supervisor of Mechanical Maintenance will plan, schedule, direct and supervise the personnel, equipment and resources involved in performing the inspection, repair, maintenance, installation, alteration, and refurbishing work of the Mechanical Maintenance Section.
Position Duties
- Perform frequent inspections of the Authority's properties and work sites, recommending necessary maintenance repairs and/or improvements.
- Schedule and prioritize the area's work ensuring safe and efficient productivity.
- Arrange for the requisition, delivery and proper maintenance of all materials, equipment, and support services from other areas to complete all work assigned.
- Manage within the approved operating and capital budgets.
- Ensure budgetary goals are met and that all work is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Assume the duties of the Superintendent as needed.
- Remain current with the MBTA's Safety Plan as well as the position's outline responsibilities.
- Participate in recruitment, training, discipline, and promotion of personnel.
- Supervise, monitor, and document the performance of various contractors, vendors, outside agencies and municipalities.
- Maintain manual and computerized records of all department maintenance and personnel activities.
- Participate in a rotating weekend duty coverage schedule and as-required weather-related duty coverage schedule.
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Supervision
- Employees and contractors within the mechanical maintenance division.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution.
- Three (3) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical systems, such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, dewatering pumps, and compressed air systems.
- Related experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Effective organizational, analytical, multi-tasking, time management and interpersonal skills.
- Have excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- The ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience.
- The ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce
- Successful applicants must have English language skills required for the effective performance of the position.

Preferred Experience and Skills
- A bachelor’s degree in business, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Technology, or related field from an accredited institution.
- Any licenses related to maintenance and repair of mechanical systems, such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, dewatering pumps, and compressed air systems.
- Additional experience in a supervisory capacity.
