Program Description: DDI Vantage empowers vulnerable children, adults and families to reach their full potential. Serving the community since 1971, this non-profit organization offers Early Intervention, Early Head Start Home-based services and Child Care Partnerships, and Adult and Youth Services programs.


Position Description: Under the direction of the Facilitator, the part-time (29 hours/week) Health Services Specialist assures program compliance with all components of the Head Start Act and Head Start Performance Standards related to health, nutrition, and safety. (S)he promotes the accomplishment of program goals related to the health and development of enrolled children and pregnant women by supporting the staff to ensure the provision of effective home- and center-based services.


Responsibilities:
• Ensures that program services related to health, nutrition, and safety comply with the Head Start Act and Head Start Program Performance Standards.
• Works with staff and childcare workers to implement health-related goals.
• Ensures that health and safety equipment and supplies are ordered, stored, maintained, and distributed properly.
• Ensures that socialization and classroom environments are in accordance with the Head Start Act and Head Start Program Performance Standards in regard to health, nutrition, and safety.
• Ensures that physical and health assessments of children and pregnant women are conducted within the required time frames.
• Coordinates activities that ensure the provision of nutrition services to children and families, in collaboration with the dietician.
• Prepares and submits reports that track the provision of center-based meals and snacks.
• Assists the Facilitator with the coordination of the Health Services Advisory Committee.
• As appropriate, maintains contact with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers in the community regarding the needs of enrolled families.
• Participates in program self-assessment and strategic planning and follows up on related action plans as assigned.
• Participates in the planning and organization of activities and events related to health, nutrition, and safety.

Qualification Requirements:

  • A high school diploma and a minimum of one year experience in public health, health education, maternal and child health, or related field.
  • A state and federal background screen; pre-employment physical and TB test; and motor vehicle records check will be conducted on all new hires.
