About the Department
As a Wastewater System Technician II, you have a unique opportunity to change lives through exceptional service. In this role you will perform routine to difficult technical work in the maintenance of the wastewater collection system and easement network for Cary. This work is vital in maintaining 1,000 plus miles of sanitary sewer lines, 26K manholes, utility easements and 270 miles of storm water pipe including catch basins.
Our technicians respond to daily calls from Citizen Advocates to unstop blockages on sewer laterals and main lines. You will also perform acoustic testing on sanitary sewer mains, mow easements, clean sanitary sewer main lines with straight jet, tag along trailer jet, and jet vacuum combination trucks. Team members are expected to be cross-trained and work in all areas within the scope of wastewater system work.
A Wastewater System Technician II works more independently than a Technician I, leads a crew of two staff members on daily tasks, and may have specialized responsibilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Wastewater Collection Field Supervisor.
Our ideal candidate is willing to work hard and displays a passion for helping the community. The candidate will be flexible, self-motivated, and willing to take initiative to complete wastewater system maintenance and repairs. The candidate will be excited to learn new skills and technology.
