Summary:
The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is a federally recognized Tribe with its ancestral homeland located in Niobrara, NE. The Tribe does not have a reservation in the classic definition; rather, the Ponca Restoration Act defined its jurisdiction as a ‘Service Delivery Area’ comprised of 15 counties throughout parts of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. Within its Service Delivery Area, the Tribe offers a broad range of health, social, educational, and cultural services.
This position will be responsible for facilitating, organizing, and conducting training programs for court staff, tribal members, Ponca Tribe of Nebraska (PTN) employees, and community partners throughout the PTN Service Delivery Area. This position will include some evening and/or non-traditional work hours to meet the training needs of the department and community.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Research, plan and organize training programs, seminars and conferences for staff, Ponca members and community agencies.
- Conducts certain training programs targeted to a variety of ages, particularly related to the dynamics of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse and stalking; to include information on perpetrator behavior, evidence based risk factors for domestic and dating violence homicide, and on issues relating to needs of victims, including safety, security, privacy and confidentiality.
- Creates material for new training programs as well as reviewing, evaluating and modifying existing and proposed programs while recommending appropriate changes.
- Facilitate presentations while also preparing and distributing training aids such as instructional material, handouts, evaluation forms, and visual aids. Sets up audiovisual equipment as necessary.
- Maintains strict confidentiality at all times.
- Develops partnerships with nonprofit, non-governmental victim service agencies in the respective service areas that can assist the tribe in its efforts to raise awareness of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, dating violence and child sexual abuse.
- Participate in and potentially facilitate Advisory Board meetings, Community Response Team (CRT’s) meetings and other community meetings.
- Presents workshops to community agencies to include nonprofit and for-profit agencies to showcase our programs and services especially related to our assistance provided for survivors.
- Complete reporting and collect data as required by funding sources.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Relationships and Authority:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position will work in conjunction with other PTN departments and community agencies. This staff will monitor training provided and ensure accurate information is placed in the database.
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
This position is in a professional office environment. This position requires frequent verbal and written communication including face-to-face, virtual, and telephone interactions. At times staff may be required to work with clients who are in crisis and must demonstrate empathy, understanding, respect, and advocacy while remaining calm in stressful situations.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, scanners, and photocopiers. This staff will sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during work hours. This position will be subject to potentially emotionally disturbing material as presented to staff, clients, and outside entities.
Will be required to work outside normal business hours to include evenings and weekends.
Extensive travel throughout the Ponca Service Delivery Area will be required and occasional travel outside of the Service Delivery Area.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services or education related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- One year training and program development experience.
- Experience leading principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individual groups, and the measurement of training effects.
- One year of experience working with domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, dating violence, and/or child sexual assault survivors.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and be insurable.
- Successfully pass drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background** checks.
- Able and willing to travel.
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in a human services or education related field or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Two years training and program development experience.
- Two years advocacy experience with children and/or families.
- Knowledge and understanding of Public Law 93-638: Indian Self-Determination Act, Tribal organizations, and funding opportunities.
Preference will be given to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members or members of a federally recognized tribe. However, all qualified individuals are eligible.
