Position Title: Facilities & Safety Coordinator
Classification: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Operations Supervisor – Facilities & Volunteer Ops
Location: Grand Junction
Compensation: $22.75/Hourly

The Facilities & Safety Coordinator is responsible for managing the maintenance of Food Bank of the Rockies’ Western Slope facility, which also houses Meals on Wheels Mesa County, while providing direction, coordination, and consultation for all repair and construction activities. This role is responsible for various hands-on duties such as maintenance, repairs, building improvements, and minor cleaning. Further, this position will support the Operations Manager – Safety & Facilities located in Denver with improvement initiatives to reduce work-related risks, raise safety/food safety awareness, and improve safe work practices, as well as assist with incident investigations, and is responsible for maintaining operational standards, safety, and appearance in the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:
Facilities – 30%
- Maintain day-to-day operations of the facility, prioritizing maintenance needs, and delegating or completing maintenance orders submitted in our internal ticketing system
- Work closely with the Facilities & Volunteer Ops Supervisor to lead facility and safety projects, and provide input in preparing and regulating facilities’ annual budget
- Maintain interior and exterior to present an attractive appearance
- Ensure maintenance products are on hand for consistent day-to-day operations
- Schedule and manages third-party contractors for routine inspections, maintenance, and preventative repairs
- Coordinate, monitor, and evaluate cleaning services and groundskeeping from third-party contracted companies
- Manage facilities hard keys and serves as the primary contact for building electronic access,
- Evaluate equipment utilization and maintenance records
- Develop, maintain, and implement routine preventative maintenance plans for facilities and equipment not covered under contract maintenance
- Assist in interviewing and verifying potential sub-contractors to become vendors with Food Bank of the Rockies
- Schedule routine inspections, maintenance, and preventative repairs with outside vendors.
- Develop and maintains standard operating procedures related to Facilities and equipment
- Serve as the primary trainer for warehouse equipment forklifts, pallet jacks and floor scrubber
Safety – 70%
- Assist with implementing safety manuals, policies, and training programs, and support the Operations department with forklift training
- Maintain records for mandatory training purposes
- Support the safety culture in coordination with leadership at our Western Slope Distribution Center
- Lead safety committee meetings to initiate and report on key safety protocols
- Contribute to the oversight of accident prevention programs, recognition, evaluation, and control of hazardous activities and conditions
- Coordinate safety training and other activities involving all building occupants
- Conduct Safety Orientations in partnership with People & Culture
- Support Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and ensures new materials and products have SDS sheets and appropriate training is provided
- Assist in maintaining records and logs of American Institute for Baking (AIB), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and Pest Control
- Support with managing the AIB programs and policies at our Western Slope Distribution Center
- Perform safety and food safety audits and inspections.
- Create reports on maintenance, repairs, safety, and other occurrences for supervisory staff
- Support facility security by supporting building opening and closing procedures
- Handle confidential information with discretion and care, ensuring the privacy and respect of employees, volunteers, partners, donors, or others
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to present information clearly, respond to questions, and build relationships with staff, partners, clients, donors, and community organizations. Strong writing skills for reports, correspondence, and manuals
- Proficiency with basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication
- Skill in solving practical problems, interpreting multiple forms of instructions, and adapting to situations with limited standardization
- Experience with Microsoft 365 and database software, along with the ability to research and apply technical solutions for facility operations
- Working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, landscaping, and industrial housekeeping
- Competence in OSHA industrial and construction safety and ergonomics
- Ability to read blueprints and electrical diagrams, perform basic machining, troubleshoot complex equipment, and operate equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, pallet jacks, and contracted machinery

- Standing and walking throughout the day; sitting intermittently
- Uses heavy equipment daily, including forklift, stand-up/sit-down lift truck, step-up pallet jack, and automatic pallet jack
- Using office equipment such as a computer, mouse, keyboard, printer
- Indoor office and warehouse environment, including refrigerated, frequently; outdoor work environment occasionally
- Ability to push and pull up to 2,000 lb. pallets with a manual pallet jack
- Frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds
- Frequent use of power tools and hand tools
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, additional education is preferred, or ability to attain safety certification from an approved organization (within 1 years)
- Prior experience with safety program compliance preferred
- 1 year of specialized maintenance experience such as carpentry, plumbing, landscaping, and industrial housekeeping are highly preferred
- Experience reading structural blueprints, electrical diagrams, and basic machine troubleshooting is preferred
- Must become certified in First Aid and CPR, safe food handling within 6-months
- Become certified trainer for forklift and pallet jack within 90 days
- Obtain Serv Safe manger certificate within 1 year of start date
- Obtain OSHA 30 within 1 year of start date
- Experience with financial management systems a plus
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience using collaborative tools for file storage and sharing, meeting scheduling, and virtual collaboration preferred
Expected Hours of Work:
This non-exempt, full-time position works approximately 40 hours per week in person. Work schedule is a typically Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30/4:00 pm and may consist of Saturdays as needed.
