Please note this is hybrid remote position and will require the selected candidate to work on site 2-3 days per week at our Northshore office (2077 Town Center Blvd Knoxville, TN 37922).

Role: The Repossession Associate is responsible for calling, sending notices, and collecting past due consumer loans in a timely manner while maintaining ORNL Federal Credit Union's collection policies, and adherence to State and Federal laws. This position will handle repossession assignments and serve as a backup to the Repossession Specialist by preparing units for transport, sale and answering questions from members and monitoring inventory that has been towed/impounded, including vehicles at repair facilities once notified of a potential loss of lien. 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Makes collection calls, sends notices according to policy, and processes/transfers funds when appropriate on past-due consumer loans. Assigns units for repossession, monitors and follows up with repossession agents/forwarding companies. Monitors impounded units to ensure ORNL Federal Credit Union does not lose liens.
  • Performs administrative duties by preparing required notices (i.e. – Notice of Intent to Sell: Post Repossession and Notice of Deficiency: Post Sale).
  • Requests cancellation of cancellable products such as GAP and Extended Service Contracts (ESC) to reduce loss to the credit union. Follows up on outstanding requests in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Experience: Six months or more of experience processing transactions and delivering customer service in a banking or credit union environment required.  One or more years of collections and/or recovery experience preferred. Knowledge of collections regulatory compliance and repossession processes preferred.

Education: A high school diploma or GED is required.

Other skills required: 

  • Ability to prioritize demands from multiple assignments/projects.    
  • Strong collaborative problem solving skills.    
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.    
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.    
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
