MAINTENANCE WORKER II PUBLIC WORKS
Pay: $20.45 Grade: 03T
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
- This position is for a strong and physically fit person to perform all types of laboring work, i.e., excavating, filling holes in streets, mowing lawns, use of weedeater, collecting garbage, using small power tools, saws, drills, mowers, etc. Daily maintenance and cleaning of all areas. Work as janitor if required. Will work at cemetery and other areas in the City when needed and as directed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Without Accommodation):
- Able to read, speak and understand English in order to perform duties of this description.
- Able to lift 70 pounds to a 45-inch height and carry it 100 yards.
- Able to work in a physically strenuous position for not less than eight (8) hours a day.
- Able to work a forty (40) hour work week and overtime when needed and as directed.
- Able to work outside in all types of weather.
- Ability to work from Work Request/Job Orders issued through City’s system.
- Able to work emergency situations after normal working hours.
- Able to work with all types of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
- Ability to climb ladders and work in high places for heights up to 60 feet, and crawl for distances of 50 feet.
- Ability to work with tools, lumber and assortment of materials.
- Able to swim.
E EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:
- Cleaning equipment and supplies, various hand and power tools, Hand-held radio and pager system.
ENVIRONMENT:
- Inside (with and without air conditioning) and outside, in all types of weather

DUTIES/TASKS/JOBS
- Pick up and empty garbage containers that are placed throughout the City. Disinfect and replace with new unused garbage liners.
- Perform minor repairs on lawnmowers, weed-eaters, chain saws and blowers.
- Work with City issued Purchase Orders used to purchase materials.
- Repair potholes in streets, clean storm drains, remove debris from streets and sidewalks, sweep glass, remove dead animals, and perform other services as directed.
- Drive a truck, load and unload materials and equipment as required.
- Lift furniture and heavy boxes when required.
- Paint curbs, road signs, and other objects when required to do so.
- Cleaning and maintaining City trucks and equipment when required by Supervisors.
- Read/fill out Work Orders provided by Public Works Supervisors, maintaining work schedules as directed.
- Remove trash, garbage and debris from assigned areas.
- Perform shift work as assigned.
- Maintain pleasant and courteous manner at all times when dealing with the public and fellow city employees.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have one year experience as a City of Key West Maintenance Worker I (In-house) or 3 years related maintenance experience.
- Demonstrate experience in minor repairs to hand power tools.
- Ability to clean and maintain City trucks and equipment.
- Ability to drive truck, load and unload heavy objects.
- Ability to clean, sweep, mop floors and streets and empty garbage.
- Ability to work and make decisions as permitted on a day-to-day basis without constant supervision.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions.
- Ability to perform simple painting of various objects and erect signs.
- Must be in excellent physical condition.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License.
- Able to read and complete work orders in a timely manner.
