About the Physiotherapy Department:  

The Physiotherapy Department is committed to promoting the highest levels of care for our patients. In realising this goal, the department will lead and excel in research, teaching and the use of person-centred evidence-based practice. The department provides services on all three campuses of Austin Health, from the Emergency Department through to bed-based services and ongoing ambulatory care.  

 

About the role:  

Working in the Austin Health Physiotherapy department you will work collaboratively with the treating clinicians and wider physiotherapy department to provide safe, effective, patient centred care.  

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Physiotherapist to join the General Medicine service at the Austin campus. This role offers a dynamic and rewarding opportunity to work primarily across Ward 7W, 7N and 7E and Ward 10, with flexibility to support other areas as needed. 

In this position, you will manage a diverse and complex caseload, with a particular focus on geriatrics, frailty, progressive neurology, falls and chronic disease management. Gen Med focuses on a home first approach supporting the patient navigate risks and autonomy in decision making.  You’ll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced acute setting.   

 

A day in the role will see you  

  • In conjunction with the General medicine physiotherapy team your role will be to assess and manage risks for patients on the general medicine ward to optimise patient outcomes and support discharge planning 
  • Be an active member of the multidisciplinary team to advocate for the role of physiotherapy in the patient's treatment and progressing patient treatment plans.  

  

About you:  

We seek someone who is compassionate and dedicated to providing excellent patient centred care.  Someone who works hard to improve patient centred outcomes related to their physical activity or function in a hospital or community setting. We value highly developed communication skills and an ability to interact with people from vast cultural/ linguistically diverse backgrounds. Ideally, you will exhibit:  

  • Sound, relevant clinical experience in the provision of evidence-based patient care for inpatient general medicine and geriatric cohorts.  
  • The motivation and capability to deliver clinical training to undergraduate / DPT students during clinical placements  
  • The motivation and capability to deliver clinical supervision for Grade 2, Grade 1 and AHA staff.  
  • Create a team environment which promotes a positive culture, opportunities for learning and development, safety and welfare of employees
