Rate of Pay: TBD for the 2025-2026 school year.  Currently $17.88 per hour plus a $1000 annual stipend pro-rated based upon hours worked and date of hire.

 

Schedule: Follows the board approved school calendar

PERS Retirement: The district assumes and pays the 6% average employee contribution to the Oregon PERS system.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The role of the Student Success Specialist is to perform a variety of program wide duties that assist with the overall care and safety of children. The Student Success Specialist will assist in the supervision of children, instruction of children, and provide assistance to program staff in effectively achieving the Department of Early Learning and Care and Office of Child Care standards and guidelines.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities and duties may vary but the essential job duties will include the following:

 

Establish and maintain a positive and effective working relationship with all school staff, caregivers and the public;

  1. Communicate needs of children to caregivers and to staff, as needed;
  2. Assist in the supervision and instruction of individual children and groups of children;
  3. Assist in the sanitation and preparation of child specific developmental learning areas including but not limited to the classroom, play areas, gymnasium equipment, outdoor play structures and equipment, meal and/or snack areas;
  4. Assist in the feeding, toileting, physical care, health needs and safety of all children;
  5. Assist in the application of child management procedures;
  6. Assist in the recording and maintaining of child performance data;
  7. Assist in the preparation of instructional and other materials;
  8. Work closely with district nursing staff to ensure medically fragile students are appropriately cared for;
  9. Assist with safe supervision of children in the office and throughout the school;
  10. Administer approved medications and first aid to sick and/or injured children;
  11. Assist and/or orient volunteers and new site personnel regarding school and district practices;
  12. Keep student information confidential;
  13. Assist with meal/ snack preparation;
  14. Under the direction of the classroom teacher, assist children in reaching developmental milestones;
  15. Under the direction of the classroom teacher, work with small groups of children to reinforce the classroom program;
  16. Clerical and record keeping tasks necessary to support the documentation required by the Program;
  17. Perform a variety of duties necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the school, including but not limited to answering calls, relaying parent messages to appropriate staff, and assisting with scheduling parent appointments;
  18. Assist with the preparation and delivery of family events.

  

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The supervisor outlines the overall objectives and priorities, timelines, and the financial and personnel resources available. The employee plans and schedules recurring work, handles problems and completes work using own initiative, exercising judgement according to previous training, experience, and instructions. Work is reviewed from an overall standpoint in terms of meeting objectives, effectiveness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

JOB CONDITIONS

It is the attendance standards of the employer that all employees are present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work.  Unauthorized full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.  Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies.

 

Job requires the use of office equipment including, but not limited to, computers with Microsoft Office, internet, tablets, telephones, cell phones, two-way radios, pagers, copy machines, and fax machines. 

 

The work environment may include indoor and outdoor assignments.

 

All types of weather conditions may be encountered, including temperature extremes, wet, dry, hot and below freezing weather, during day and night in stressful emergency situations.

 

Potential exposure to bodily fluids; airborne, blood borne and other communicable diseases.

 

Noises levels from: quiet office setting to high levels.

TRAINING PERIOD

The required probationary period for a new employee is 120 working days. Upon successful completion of the probationary period of employment, the employee will achieve “regular” employee status.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Certifications and licenses must be maintained for the duration of employment.

 

Education

AA degree, two years of full-time college, or a passing score on the paraprofessional exam.

 

Certifications/Licenses

CPR and First Aid training certification (must obtain after hire)

Food handler's permit (must obtain after hire)

 

Other

Successful completion of Oregon School-based fingerprinting and criminal history verification as deemed by State of Oregon legislation. 

 

Successfully complete registration with the Central Background Registry (CBR) and maintain registration as required.

 

Experience

Computer experience with an emphasis in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and work in a networked environment.
