WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Environmental Technician reporting to the Houston, TX office; working the Texas Panhandle and Eastern New Mexico. Your ImpactThis position involves primarily field tasks and outdoor assignments in an industrial setting
- Operation and maintenance of remediation systems
- Equipment repair of remediation system components including generators, various pumps, piping, valves, media filtration systems, electrical systems, etc.
- Sample collection from monitoring points for regulatory compliance
- Documentation of field tasks and record keeping as appropriate
- Grounds maintenance
- Compiling data summaries for project managers
- Conduct monitoring events that may include following standards and procedures for sampling of groundwater, soil, and benzene
- Perform field measurements and calculations
- Record and compile field data using tablets and field meters
- Perform assigned office duties, such as data entry
- Coordinate and communicate with client representatives, subcontractors, and WSP employees.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college a plus
- 0-3 years of relevant experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Strong commitment to health and safety
- Positive attitude and able to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to travel as needed
- Ability to communicate openly and clearly with project teams
- Moderate proficiency with MS Office software including Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Ability to pass a drug screening and background check
- Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator
- Ability to independently complete field assignments and summarize field data for use in reporting
- Proficient MS Office skills and data collection tablets
- Ability to safely lift 40 pounds
- Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols
- Strong initiative, problem-solving and communication skills, and attention to detail
- Good verbal and written communication skills and a professional attitude
- Willingness to travel for field assignments as dictated by project demands (including to remote locations in Eastern New Mexico up to 15% of time)
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening
Preferred Qualifications
- Two-year technical degree in the field of engineering, environmental sciences, or related discipline
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER
- Hands-on field experience, including familiarity/experience with groundwater and soil sampling techniques and field procedures
