WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Environmental Technician reporting to the Houston, TX office; working the Texas Panhandle and Eastern New Mexico.  Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 

Your Impact

This position involves primarily field tasks and outdoor assignments in an industrial setting

  • Operation and maintenance of remediation systems
  • Equipment repair of remediation system components including generators, various pumps, piping, valves, media filtration systems, electrical systems, etc.
  • Sample collection from monitoring points for regulatory compliance
  • Documentation of field tasks and record keeping as appropriate
  • Grounds maintenance
  • Compiling data summaries for project managers
  • Conduct monitoring events that may include following standards and procedures for sampling of groundwater, soil, and benzene
  • Perform field measurements and calculations
  • Record and compile field data using tablets and field meters
  • Perform assigned office duties, such as data entry
  • Coordinate and communicate with client representatives, subcontractors, and WSP employees.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college a plus
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Strong commitment to health and safety
  • Positive attitude and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Ability to communicate openly and clearly with project teams
  • Moderate proficiency with MS Office software including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Ability to pass a drug screening and background check
  • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator
  • Ability to independently complete field assignments and summarize field data for use in reporting
  • Proficient MS Office skills and data collection tablets
  • Ability to safely lift 40 pounds
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols
  • Strong initiative, problem-solving and communication skills, and attention to detail
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and a professional attitude
  • Willingness to travel for field assignments as dictated by project demands (including to remote locations in Eastern New Mexico up to 15% of time)
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree in the field of engineering, environmental sciences, or related discipline
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER
  • Hands-on field experience, including familiarity/experience with groundwater and soil sampling techniques and field procedures
