Overview:

GDC IT Solutions is currently seeking a DB2 Database Administrator to work in a hybrid capacity, with 2 days on-site per week in Harrisburg, PA.

Position Overview:

Position Description:

As a DB2 Database Administrator, you will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting DB2 databases in a complex enterprise environment, ensuring high performance, availability, and reliability of mission-critical systems.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Design and maintain DB2 database applications focused on high availability and maximum performance.
  • Provide 24x7 production and test environment support for complex enterprise systems.
  • Perform SQL code reviews and application-level performance tuning.
  • Enforce DB2 security standards and collaborate with systems programming staff on DSNZPARM settings.
  • Create, manage, and support DB2 stored procedures, triggers, and referential integrity.
  • Provide database performance monitoring and tuning in collaboration with technical teams.
  • Handle change requests, service tickets, and provide 24x7 on-call support.
  • Support DB2 Connect configuration for users and distributed systems.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and backup/recovery strategy development.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and technical decisions in coordination with management.
  • Document technical designs, procedures, and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience with DB2 for z/OS in high-volume production environments.
  • Expertise in DB2 12 for z/OS or higher, including utilities, performance tuning, and high availability strategies.
  • Strong SQL skills including complex coding and tuning.
  • Experience with data modeling (logical and physical) and large data store management.
  • Proven ability in designing and supporting 24x7 database availability.
  • Familiarity with DRDA and DB2 Connect interfaces.
  • Proficiency in DB2 tools including IBM Data Studio, DB2 Admin Tool, Automation Tool, Explain, Query Monitor, OPTIM Workload Query Tuner, File Manager, Tivoli OMEGAMON, and QMF.
  • Mainframe skills including TSO/ISPF, JCL, DFSORT, ICETOOL, REXX, and general z/OS utilities.
Preferred Experience:
  • DB2 V9 or V10 Certification.
  • IMS database experience and knowledge of IMS utilities (IBM, BMC, NEON).
  • ETL tools experience such as InfoSphere or Informatica.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities across multiple projects and teams.
