About the Department
The Department Services Aide - Senior Center is an entry-level position that provides administrative support for the Senior Center in Central Park.
Incumbent must be available to work a varied work schedule as work schedule changes with demand for social services.

Temporary/part-time employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 – June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7½% of base earnings to the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice. Further restrictions apply to CalPERS Retired Annuitants.Position Duties
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
- Facilitating collaborative operations between the City of Huntington Beach and the Huntington Beach Council on Aging (HBCOA)
- Processing and tracking HBCOA memberships, managing donations, and coordinating sponsorships for the newsletter
- Assist in the implementation of the HBCOA Trips & Travel program and support Travel and Resource Room volunteers with payment processing and travel-related inquiries
- Respond to customer inquiries as needed and assist volunteers with training, customer support, and coordination.
- Utilize web-based fundraising software, to process all payments related to memberships, donations, sponsorships, and events
- Collaborate with the Supervisor and the HBCOA webmaster and social media administrator to ensure timely updates. Work alongside City staff to publish the monthly newsletter
- May serve as a liaison to the HBCOA Board and participate in related committees, including Finance, Marketing, and Trips & Travel, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of: Basic social service needs of older adults and families; assessment skills and available community resources to meet clients’ needs; standard office principles and procedures; personal computers and standard business software.
Ability to: Communicate effectively with older adults, volunteers, board members, and professionals; work collaboratively with staff in a team environment; maintain effective relationships with donor and sponsors.
Possess:
- Strong computer skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Enjoy working with an aging population and volunteers
- Patience, tact and diplomacy in a highly demanding environment
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent certificate required. College coursework in social welfare, social or human services, sociology, gerontology, or other behavioral sciences is preferred.
- Three (3) years of experience working with older adults, volunteers, or in customer service operations. Fluency in a second language preferred, but not required.
Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
CPR/First Aid Certificates must be obtained within three (3) months of appointment.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Employees regularly assigned/required to drive a city or personal vehicle in the course and scope of work shall be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program.
