Position Type: Full-Time; Hourly, Non-exempt, starting $16.00/hour
Shift: Monday through Friday; 2:30PM - 11PM
Reports To: Regional Manager/Day Lead
The Night Lead Custodian is responsible for overseeing daily custodial operations during after school hours, ensuring cleanliness across the facility. Your leadership and attention to detail will ensure the school is cleaned and prepared for school. The Night Lead performs hands-on cleaning with a team of 3 part-time employees, coordinates night cleaning for the building, and collaborates with the Day Lead and the Facility Manager. This position will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness specifications throughout the school building, including classrooms, office spaces, hallways, restrooms, gym, clinic, and other common areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Begin each shift with a debrief from the Day Lead
- Coordinate and support evening custodial staff
- Ensure all assigned areas are cleaned to specification
- Complete work orders and report unresolved issues to the Facility Manager
- Ensure our team covers the following tasks:
- DORS Spaces: empty all trash and recycling bins; replace liners, dust and disinfect desks, tables, chairs, and computers, remove marks, smudges, and stains from desks and surfaces, vacuum or mop floors as appropriate, clean interior glass and remove fingerprints, and sanitize door handles and light switches
- Hallways (East Wing): sweep and wet mop all hallway floors, clean and sanitize handrails and door handles, remove trash and debris, spot clean walls and lockers, and clean glass on hallway doors and windows
- Multi-Purpose Room/Gym: sweep and mop the entire floor area, remove trash and recycling, wipe down tables, chairs, and equipment if used, spot clean walls and doors, and ensure gym is ready for next-day use or events
- Office Spaces: empty wastebaskets and replace liners, dust and disinfect desks, phones, and office furniture, clean glass surfaces and remove smudges, vacuum or mop floors, and sanitize high-touch areas (door handles, light switches)
- Clinic: wet mop the floor with disinfectant, clean and sanitize all surfaces, including counters and sinks, empty trash and replace liners, disinfect door handles and high-touch areas, refill soap and paper products as needed.
- Restrooms: Clean and sanitize toilets, urinals, and sinks, refill soap, paper towels, and toilet paper, mop floors with disinfectant, wipe down partitions, walls, and fixtures, and empty trash and replace liners.
- Report issues requiring contractor intervention
General Cleaning Tasks include:
- Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors in classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, and common areas
- Dust and wipe down furniture, windowsills, light fixtures, and other surfaces
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, and replenishing supplies (toilet paper, soap, etc.)
- Empty trash cans around the school and dispose of waste in a safe and proper manner
- Clean and disinfect high-touch areas such as door handles, light switches, and handrails
- Maintain cleanliness of entrance and exit areas, including sweeping walkways and removing debris
- Ensure cleaning supplies and chemicals are used in accordance with safety guidelines and company policies
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment
- Ensure the school is kept safe from hazards such as slippery floors or blocked exit routes
- Monitor and report supply levels to ensure adequate stock of cleaning products, paper goods, and equipment
- Restock supplies in restrooms, classrooms, and common areas
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of custodial storage areas
- Any other task requested by your management
Special Cleaning Tasks:
- Monthly tasks include:
- Clean elevator interiors, exteriors, and door tracks
- Spot clean and dust all walls, including lockers
- Damp wipe waste containers
- Vacuum upholstered furniture
- Damp wipe air distribution units and radiators
- Dust blinds
- Damp wipe door/window frames and sills
- Polish wood furniture and wall surfaces
- Vacuum cobwebs from baseboards, ceilings, and corners
- Quarterly tasks include:
- Wash and scrub garbage cans inside and out
- Dust air return vents
- Wipe dirt and handprints off walls
- Scrub crayon marks off classroom chairs and tables.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience is preferred but not required
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
- Skills:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Ability to work efficiently and prioritize tasks
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs
- Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, including indoors and outdoors (weather permitting)
- Capable of using cleaning equipment such as vacuums, buffers, and floor scrubbers
- Other Requirements:
- Reliable transportation to and from the job site
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening (if required by the client)
- Must be punctual, dependable, and maintain a positive attitude.
Working Conditions:
- Schedule: This position requires flexibility to align with the school’s operating hours. Exact work hours may vary based on the school’s schedule and specific needs. Paid holidays include: New Year’s Day (Wednesday, 1/1), MLK Day (1/19), President’s Day (Flex holiday if not snow makeup day 2/16) Memorial Day (Monday, 5/26), Juneteenth (6/19), Independence Day (Friday, 7/4), Labor Day (Monday, 9/1), Thanksgiving Day & Day After (Thursday, 11/27 and Friday, 11/28), and Christmas Day (Thursday, 12/25). The blue holidays are specific to Christel House and only apply to this building.
- Environment: The role involves cleaning various areas within the school building, including classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, and common areas. Some outdoor work may be required.
- Uniform: Company shirts and any required PPE (personal protective equipment) will be provided. Additional Marquis shirts/sweatshirts will be available for purchase at an additional cost. No sweatpants, workout/yoga pants, or graphic shirts except those with Christel House or contractor logos.
- Training: On-the-job training will be provided to ensure proper use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.
