SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Safety Manager position will lead the implementation of prevention focused health, safety and environmental (HSE) and security programs. The position will establish and execute specific strategies that supports The Company’s HSE objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES: Additional duties, which are necessary to carry out the function of the Safety Manager, may be assigned and are incorporated by reference into this job description
- Prepare training material such as lesson plans, handouts, and slide presentations;
- Conduct training sessions on topics such as fire safety, accident prevention, OSHA related topics, and emergency response procedures;
- Interpret federal, state, and local regulations regarding occupational health and safety standards an implement policies and training;
- Review reports of accidents or hazards in the workplace and implement corrective measures to reduce risk;
- Conduct research on safety topics and develop educational materials based on findings;
- Train employees on company safety policies and procedures;
- Evaluate employee performance to ensure that they are complying with safety rules and standards;
- Conduct investigations into employee accidents or near misses to determine causes and prevent future incidents from occurring;
- Provide supervisor and management training on root cause analysis;
- Interface and monitoring with regulatory bodies (OSHA, DOT, FDA, USDA, and State/Local Regulators);
- Develop effective interdepartmental relationships
- All personnel are subject to cross-training and/or permanent reassignment based on administrative and/or operational needs in conjunction with Senior Management's discretion.
- Will need to travel to multiple company locations.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to conduct training;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills;
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software;
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related field preferred;
- Health and safety certification required;
One year of related experience preferred;
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands of this job include strenuous mental activities related to instructing personnel and some physical activity. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, climb steps or ramps. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may lift 20-40 pounds when needed and occasionally lift 50 to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will normally work in an office environment and will frequent warehouses. The noise level of the work environment is usually low to moderate.
