The Safety Manager is responsible for continuously monitoring and adapting safety procedures, programs, training and operations to ensure a safe and fully compliant work environment for all employees. 

What You’ll Do

As our Safety Manager, you’ll:

  • Effectively communicate safety strategies and expectations in a fair, consistent, and respectful manner that is in accordance with the Company’s Vision, Mission, and Values along with all policies and applicable laws.
  • Follows OSHA programs and positively supports our safety-first culture that directly impacts of incident rate improvements. 
  • Knows and leads the team to follow all HACCP and SQF programs, food safety procedures, and standard operation procedures (SOPs).
  • Thoroughly understands production jobs and equipment to ensure necessary safety protocols and meet OSHA requirements
  • Complete equipment inspections and proactively monitors employee conformity to safety protocols
  • Leads by example and assures everyone wears required personal protective equipment and follows safety standards.
  • Adhere to compliance and communicates expectations of policies and procedures to managers, supervisors, team leaders, employees, and visitors, etc. 
  • Engage as an active member of the safety leadership committee. 
  • Conduct thorough incident reports and investigations and document all events leading up to thorough follow up with individuals involved.
  • Conduct safety research to create policies that eliminate workplace hazards, documenting accidents in the workplace and investigating the circumstances of an illness or injury.
  • Update SDS sheets and post as needed.
  • Analyze incident reports, metrics, and injury case studies to institute changes that lead to a safer environment. 
  • As needed, applies for permits, purchasing safety equipment to limit risk.
  • Calculate total DART, DAFWII, TCIR, and ergonomic incident rates for monthly reporting. 
  • Ensure safety training is completed on time in coordination with safety coordinators and trainer
  • Ensure everyone has the necessary certifications to operate heavy machinery and set standards for testing and maintenance to prevent dangerous malfunctions.
  • Comply with recordkeeping of all training, certifications, and compliance per Workers Compensation, OSHA, HAACP, etc. 

 What You Bring to the Table

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental safety, safety management, or similar field, or the equivalent of three plus years on the job experience and/or combination of education and experience. 
  • Education to include training in managing hazardous materials, one year plus leading a team.
  • In depth knowledge of OSHA, 29 CFR, 1910 General Industry Standards
  • Awareness of EPA standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for communicating across departments, vendors, and within the community.
  • Ability to lead and teach skills necessary to perform safely while building rapport with employees and vendors. 
  • Presentation skills and utilization of adult learning methodology.
  • Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts in simple terms.
  • Ability to produce reports and develop relevant policies.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft products including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams. Willingness to learn software and technology as it applies to the position. 
  • Required certifications: OSHA 511, First Aid, AED, CPR, Forklift, hand jack, sky jack, and pallet jack
  • Preferred certifications: CSP and ASP
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance (good standing)
  • English fluency with ability to read, analyze, interpret, write, and present general business communications.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations. Ability to interpret and follow instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
