Position Duties
With every job we fill, our focus is on providing best in class service to our citizens while offering the opportunity for professional growth in a rewarding and innovative work environment. Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a Fire Inspector to join Gilbert Fire & Rescue.
The Fire Inspector conducts inspections of various buildings, facilities and properties for hazardous conditions and code compliance. The position also serves as a consultant to the public, business owners, contractors, and engineers to assist and recommend corrective actions for unsafe conditions and verify compliance with the fire code.
Examples of job duties include:
- Inspects:
- new and existing buildings for compliance with fire codes, regulations and ordinances
- special events, fireworks displays, and operational permits
- fire protection and life safety systems
- food trucks for fire hazards and compliance with fire codes, regulations and ordinances
- Inspects occupancies that store, handle and use hazardous materials for compliance with fire codes, regulations and ordinances.
- Recommends corrections for defects and inadequacies that require corrections to comply with applicable fire codes, regulations and ordinances.
- Reviews site plans for fire exit plans and assists in the development of them. Provides technical assistance for the interpretation of the fire codes.
- Provides public education to businesses to promote fire safety and fire code compliance.
- Assists with child safety seat program
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

- Is careful with rules. Adhering to established guidelines and procedures is your specialty. You gather a high degree of information before making a decision.
- Delivers high-quality service. You have strong follow-through on delegated tasks and assignments. You lead by example.
- Associate degree in fire science
- 4 years of experience as a building or fire inspector
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- International Fire Code Inspector I Certification within 1 year of hire date
- NHTSA Child Safety Seat certification within 1 year of hire date
- Valid Arizona driver's license by time of hire
