Reports To: Director of Recruiting & Professional Development
Salary: $120,000 to $160,000
Position Summary
The Professional Development Manager will lead and execute firm-wide initiatives focused on attorney growth, training, mentoring, and integration. This role is essential to fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional excellence throughout an attorney’s career at the firm. Reporting to the Director of Recruiting and Professional Development, this individual will also collaborate with the firm’s Knowledge Management team to develop and deliver AI and technology-related training and skills development programs for attorneys.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and manage firm-wide associate training programs, including first-year curriculum and ongoing professional skills development.
- Partner with Practice Group Leaders to identify and implement practice-specific training resources.
- Survey attorneys and firm leadership to identify professional development needs and training gaps.
- Implement development plans tailored to associate career stages and practice group needs.
- Utilize Learning Management System to build out training tracks and online resource libraries.
- Oversee the associate mentoring program and analyze feedback to maximize program engagement and benefit; create resources and programming to support mentors and mentees in optimizing mentoring relationship.
- Manage the annual review process for associates, of counsel, and staff attorneys and support midyear evaluations; compile reports and data analysis to inform performance review meetings.
- Manage lateral associate integration and support lateral partner onboarding in collaboration with the Director of Growth & Engagement.
- Collaborate with the Knowledge Management team to identify AI training needs and deliver targeted programming.
- Work closely with Recruiting, IT, Marketing, HR, and other departments to support firm-wide initiatives.
- Maintain current knowledge of firm policies and procedures related to recruitment, orientation, evaluations, and training.
- Foster effective communication across practice groups and offices.
- Contribute to initiatives that enhance associate engagement and retention.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; JD preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in professional development or legal talent management, preferably in a law firm setting; law firm practice experience preferred.
