SALARY SCHEDULE & BENEFITS | The Instructional Assistant is paid on the “Instructional Assistants” salary schedule, and is eligible for benefits on the “Support Staff” benefits schedule. Starting pay $16.05 per hour. |
REPORTS TO | The Instructional Assistant is supervised by one or more teachers. Instructional Assistants and teachers report to the building Principal. |
SUPERVISES | The Instructional Assistant does not directly supervise any other employee(s). |
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Under direct supervision, the Study Hall Instructional Assistant supports student learning by monitoring and managing study hall sessions. The role is focused on establishing and maintaining a structured, safe, and academically supportive environment where students can complete assignments, study, or work independently. The assistant ensures proper student behavior and provides basic academic support when needed, reinforcing study skills and encouraging responsible use of time and resources. Performs related work as directed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervises and monitors students during study hall periods to ensure a safe, respectful, and productive academic environment.
Promotes responsible study habits by encouraging students to remain on task, complete assignments, and use study hall time effectively.
Provides basic academic support, including answering student questions, clarifying directions, and assisting with organization skills.
Maintains order, enforces school rules, and applies appropriate behavior management strategies.
Assists students in accessing academic resources, such as textbooks, Chromebooks, or other educational materials.
Maintains daily attendance records and ensures accurate reporting of student presence.
Communicates with teachers and administrators regarding student behavior, academic concerns, or recurring issues observed during study hall.
Offers redirection and support for students who need additional guidance in using time productively.
Monitors appropriate technology use and ensures students follow school guidelines when using devices.
Supports the overall academic mission of the school by fostering an environment conducive to independent and group learning.
May be assigned to supervision responsibilities outside of study hall (hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, or bus duty).
Maintains confidentiality of student records and complies with all school policies and procedures.
Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs related duties as directed.
ENTRY-LEVEL REQUIREMENTS:
1. EDUCATION/TRAINING: An Associate’s degree or higher, or at least sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited institution of higher education (official transcripts are required to validate education), or if you have passed the ParaPro test.
2. EXPERIENCE: Previous vocational training and/or work experience with school-age children is preferred.
3. CERTIFICATIONS &/OR LICENSES: Able to meet the requirements of a paraprofessional as outlined in ESSA. Pass the required Expanded Criminal History Check and Expanded Child Protection Index Check. Must have at least an associate’s degree or two years of college or passed the ParaPro Assessment. The Highlander Park offers the ParaPro Assessment at no cost for all Warren Township prospective employees. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (10-20 pounds).
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
