Position Purpose: Manages the product life cycle, and in particular, the idea/strategic planning, feasibility and decision stages of the product life cycle. In addition to managing a Product Development and Management staff, responsible for the design and development of new products that are identified for implementation, as well as for introducing product profitability and service improvements to existing products. This individual will also support Sales in product customizations for all product lines.
- Assists in the compilation of competitive analyses, market analysis and custom market research to support potential product enhancements; product simplification or retirement initiatives; or market expansions.
- Works with appropriate departments and joint venture partners to assure that new product initiatives meet an internal and external feasibility test.
- Analysis includes, but is not limited to, regulatory and compliance feasibility, financial feasibility and market feasibility.
- Compiles feasibility studies, which could include the following: marketing plan, business case, financial pro formas, and identification of key decision points and critical paths for implementation.
- Such plans are intended to assure that the structure (training, staff, equipment, and processes) is in place to meet the product’s stated goals.
- Prepares detailed feasibility studies including needed resources, business case and recommendations for new product implementation.
- Provides support for the Proposal Unit, Sales management, Underwriting, Actuarial, Operations and Legal and, if needed, directly with prospective clients, when appropriate (i.e., major customization that will become a standard type of product offering), to understand the desired features and terms for customized managed care plans.
- For existing products, conducts a continuous quality improvement program.
- This involves writing business and marketing plans that track the products’ performance versus established corporate profitability or service goals, and making recommendations that will improve the product from a profitability or performance perspective.
- Manages a Product Development & Management staff affected by the creation of a new plan to understand and resolve their concerns, issues, requirements and limitations relating to the new plan being designed, and to define the implementation responsibilities and related time requirements for each department.
- Provides initial communication and training for internal and external audiences on new product initiatives.
- In conjunction with Product Development & Management staff, develops implementation task plans for each new product, including specific assignments and timing requirements for each task.
- Plans include, but are not limited to, enhancements to information systems, operational procedures, and organization responsibilities needed to provide the services included in the new products.
- Acts as liaison to national product development initiatives and introduces new products.
- Prepares periodic reports/presentations for the committees regarding the status of new product initiatives.
