The Manager, Prototype Supply Chain leads a team of Supply Chain professionals and is accountable for the execution of strategic sourcing, commodity management, procurement, inventory management, and being an interface point for supplier quality. This role is responsible for developing a robust, preferably local/domestic prototype supply base for humanoid robots, managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and driving speed, quality, and service objectives. The Manager partners with internal stakeholders—including engineering, operations, finance, and legal—to align sourcing approaches with business needs. This leader also drives team development, process optimization, and continuous improvement to enhance sourcing performance and supplier value creation, specifically for an R&D and low-volume prototype environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a team of sourcing professionals responsible for supplier selection, negotiations, and contract execution.

  • Manage and develop a team of procurement specialists responsible for buying both direct and indirect material.

  • Translate larger corporate and functional sourcing strategies into actionable plans and performance objectives for the Atlas team.

  • Oversee prototype sourcing processes to ensure consistency, compliance, and delivery of speed and service level goals.

  • Partner with stakeholders across engineering, operations, and product development to support new product introduction, innovation sourcing, and supply continuity.

  • Lead or approve key prototype supplier negotiations, long-term agreements, and pricing strategies.

  • Ensure prototype supplier performance meets quality, delivery, and cost expectations; lead resolution of supplier escalations and performance improvement initiatives.

  • Use spend analytics and supplier data to drive strategic decisions, optimize sourcing processes, and inform leadership.

  • Develop the capabilities of the sourcing team through coaching, feedback, and performance management.

  • Promote adoption of sourcing policies, systems, and process standardization across business units.

  • Ensure inventory accuracy and health meet or exceed expectations in a rapidly changing environment where speed and quality are of the utmost importance.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of strategic sourcing, supplier management, category planning, and contract negotiation practices.

  • Strong knowledge of Inventory Management best practices, process flows, and ways to optimize for an R&D environment.

  • Experience managing teams and developing talent in inventory, procurement or supply chain environments.

  • Ability to translate business objectives into sourcing strategy and operational execution.

  • Proficiency with ERP and procurement systems, supplier risk tools, and spend analytics platforms.

  • Excellent leadership, influencing, and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical groups.

  • Skilled in conflict resolution, performance coaching, and change leadership.

Typical Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree (e.g., MBA) preferred.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain; 2+ years in a team leadership or management role.

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CPSM, CIPS, CSCP) are beneficial.
