Operations Manager - Full Time - Sutton in Ashfield, United Kingdom
Sulzer is a leading engineering company with a proud heritage of innovation. Join our global team to grow your expertise and develop innovative solutions that enable a prosperous and more sustainable society.
Due to continued growth and increasing demand from key sectors – including our long-standing partnerships in UK Rail – Sulzer is looking for a results-driven Operations Manager to join our Services team based in Sutton-in-Ashfield.
Our Sutton-in-Ashfield facility is home to over 20 highly skilled individuals and a dedicated support team, all working together to deliver high-quality repair and overhaul services for rotating equipment, traction motors, and components for the rail industry. This is a key leadership role with the potential for expansion and increased site responsibility in the future, making it an exciting time to join and make a lasting impact.
As part of Sulzer’s wider Services Division, you’ll help drive performance, embed operational excellence, and raise standards even further — all while living Sulzer’s values: Seize opportunities, Own it, Team up, and Create value.
Your main tasks and responsibilities:
- Take ownership of day-to-day operational performance, ensuring output, quality, and cost targets are met.
- Implement robust planning and resource management to support sustainable growth.
- Drive continuous improvement and Lean initiatives to boost efficiency and service delivery.
- Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and high performance through active leadership.
- Motivate and develop the team to work collaboratively, aligned with Sulzer’s values and goals.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Proven experience in operations or production management, ideally in a service or engineering environment.
- Strong technical understanding of rotating equipment — experience in the rail sector is highly desirable.
- Solid commercial acumen, with the ability to manage budgets, drive KPIs, and support business growth.
- NEBOSH or equivalent HSE qualification, and a proactive approach to safety management.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with a hands-on, solutions-focused mindset.
What we offer you:
- Competitive salary
- Personal annual bonus based on company and individual performance
- 33 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays)
- Defined contribution pension scheme
- Access to our Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing support
- Discounts on everyday purchases, entertainment, and more
- Discounted personal car leasing for you and your family
- Opportunity to apply for a Costco membership
- Long Service Awards to recognise your commitment
- Ongoing development through Sulzer Learning Pathways
- Free on-site parking with excellent motorway access
Please note: We are unable to provide visa or work permit support for this role.
Join us at Sutton-in-Ashfield and play a vital role in supporting Sulzer’s growth in the UK rail and rotating equipment sectors — with the potential to expand your remit as we grow further.
