The Towers Operator position performs all tasks involved in the production of the company’s products. This includes manufacturing, inspecting, and moving products. The position follows standard work methods and practices safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.

DGH is a leading manufacturer of technical textiles, fabrics and yarns used in the appliance industry, industrial markets, and personal protective equipment (PPE).



Essential Functions:

  • Perform tasks assigned by supervisor.
  • Setup, feed, and monitor up to 17 heat towers to manufacture products.
  • Inspect and label products according to quality requirements.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and minimize downtime.
  • Track production utilizing the appropriate visual management or documentation tools.
  • Escalate safety, quality concerns or machine malfunction to the supervisor.
  • Burn and color product according to specifications.
  • Mix solutions for coloring process.
  • Move the product to the designated area for the next manufacturing process.
  • Participate in team meetings and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position, workdays are Sunday through Friday, and work hours are 11:00 pm to 7:00 am


Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous production or manufacturing experience, a plus.
  • Supervisory Experience:
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Travel:

This position does not travel. 



Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Standing: 20% of the shift. Must stand for equipment setup, inspecting, and shifting product from one station to another or to designated staging location.
  • Climbing: Occasionally, must go to the mezzanine to troubleshoot equipment.
  • Walking: 80% of the shift. Must walk within the department to untangle product, inspect and setup equipment, and across the factory to move product to the next manufacturing process or staging area.
  • Lifting: Must frequently lift boxes full of product (approximately 50 lb) onto carts or skids to be moved within or out of the department, and lift buckets of mixing solution (45 lb) to the correct tower.
  • Pushing and/or pulling: Must frequently pull or push a cart (approximately 50 lb) to move product to the staging area, and a pallet jack full of product (200+ lb) to the next process. 
  • Carrying: Must frequently carry 5-gallon buckets of mixing solution the correct tower.
  • Grasping: Must be able to manually untangle product, inspect for quality defects and attach product to manufacture continuously.
  • Reaching: Must reach to inspect, untangle, sort, staple or cut product.
  • Stooping and crouching: Must occasionally stoop or crouch to pick up buckets of solution and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Color determination: Must be able to differentiate between shades of color to determine the right burn and coating of the product. 
  • Near acuity: Must be able to detect twists and knots in product before it enters the burn/coating process.
  • Speaking: Must verbally communicate with supervisor and team about safety, quality and production.
  • Listening: Must be able to listen to teammates and be aware of forklift traffic around the factory.
  • Smelling: Must be able to smell smoke, fire, or any elements burning.


Mental Requirements:

The mental requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Comprehend basic instructions regarding safety guidelines, quality inspections, equipment and performance.
  • Utilize a caliper, micrometer, and tape measure to set up dies.
  • Utilize hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.
  • Interpret documents, such as work instructions, priority lists, production logs, etc.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Utilize a computer to report defect and production quantities.
  • Must have the ability to perform basic arithmetic including additions, subtraction, multiplication, and division (may use a calculator).
  • Comprehend complex issues and communicate effectively to diverse groups, such as observing defect patterns, troubleshoot setup issues and communicate to supervisors and teammates.
