About the Department
Join our Internal Services Department as a Material Support Associate I, where you’ll play a vital role in the smooth operation of County facilities. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity to launch your career in public service while supporting essential day-to-day functions across departments.
In this dynamic role, you'll provide general administrative support, including receiving, sorting, and processing incoming mail, organizing and maintaining file systems, and offering front-line customer service by greeting the public and handling phone and email inquiries. Position Duties
- Transport, receive, and distribute mail, packages, and essential materials daily to ensure efficient internal communication and operations across County departments
- Organize, update, and maintain departmental filing systems—both physical and digital—to support quick access to important records
- Assist with routine administrative tasks, including preparing basic correspondence and entering data into departmental systems with accuracy and attention to detail
- Drive to pick up and deliver materials between sites and vendors, safely load/unload materials
- Serve as a welcoming first point of contact, greeting guests and the public in a professional manner while providing excellent customer service
- Answer phones and respond to emails, offering accurate, courteous, and timely general information or directing inquiries to appropriate staff
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive documents and communications, ensuring all materials are handled with professionalism and discretion
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Other Qualifications
- Knowledge of office work procedures, methods and practices
- Knowledge of office accounting and record keeping procedures, mathematics and their application in the work environment
- Ability to interact with the public and provide customer service in a team-oriented office environment
- Ability to use a variety of office equipment
- Ability to prioritize, coordinate, monitor office workflow and demonstrate computer skills
Conditions of Employment
Driving is an essential function of this position. To be considered, you must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. If your driver's license is from another state, you will be required to obtain and show proof of a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.
Successful candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment with Cumberland County must pass pre-employment screenings, including criminal history checks and drug screenings, as required by Cumberland County Policies and Procedures, prior to beginning work or receiving a final offer of employment.
