The Health and Safety Manager will lead and develop health and safety programs, cultivate, and drive a health and safety conscious culture, and assure the site is complying through the appropriate adherence to Health and Safety regulation and Aker BioMarine standards.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the maintenance and implementation of all processes outlined by the OSHA PSM and EPA RMP standards and regulations
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all plant safety equipment such as PPE, fire suppression, respiratory, HAZMAT, HAZCOM, Emergency Rescue, etc.
  • Conduct and coordinate health and safety training programs, toolbox talks, and emergency response training drills
  • Lead safety during major maintenance shutdowns
  •  Responsible for assisting site on maintaining contractor safety performance
  • Inspect and approve all safety equipment in new process designs or facility expansions
  •  Own the safety and hazard KPI report by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing/benchmarking data and trends
  • Maintain plant safety statistics and submit reports of performance as requested internally and externally
  •  Develop and recommend new health and safety policies
  •  Continuously improve the health and safety conditions by investigating accidents, injuries, and hazards
  • Prepare and issue records and reports as required by State and/or Federal regulations (i.e. logs, permits, etc.)
  •  Build rapport with and support investigating and monitoring agencies
  •  Drive the site Health and Safety culture to stretch the plant site toward zero recordables and incidents
  •  Serve as the technical expert on safety committees
  • Maintain and improve systems for identifying gaps, updating content, and sharing standard methodologies
  •  Find opportunities to improve efficiency of Health and Safety systems
  •  Integrate behavioral safety process into current culture
  • Process owner for local Crisis Management leadership

 

Work Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Engineering, or other technical undergraduate degree (Chemical, Mechanical, Process Safety, or Electrical).
  • Minimum of 10 years of applicable experience performing Health & Safety functions in an

industrial/manufacturing chemical environment and applying OSHA standards

  • Experience in an ethanol production site a plus (i.e. brewery, ethanol plant, biofuels)
  • Familiarity with construction safety methods
  • Experience with a behavior-based management system
