We’re looking for a proactive Yard Supervisor to lead daily depot operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and service excellence. You’ll manage staff, oversee vehicle movements, and maintain compliance with Health & Safety and operational standards, supporting our mission to deliver the best bus service in London.
Key Responsibilities
- To ensure that vehicle cleanliness and driver presentation standards meet the requirement of the London buses BCES Surveys.
- Enforce Health & Safety standards, addressing hazards, incidents, and non-compliance.
- Manage contractors, visitors, and emergency procedures in line with company policy.
- Coordinate with engineers and operations teams to ensure vehicles are service-ready, clean, and on time.
- Oversee safe and efficient yard operations, including vehicle parking, pedestrian movements, and EV charging.
- Conduct audits, reporting, and thorough shift handovers to maintain operational continuity.
- Ensure that where required comprehensive driver first use checks are undertaken.
- Daily reconciliation of first use checks, VCR checks and ramp audits on a daily and weekly basis.
- Have a duty of care for the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues at all times, including a duty to report unsafe acts or omissions to safety.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the Grade.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- It is essential that the successful candidate has good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Must have the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from Operations, Engineering, and other departments.
- Good Knowledge of bus operations.
- PCV licence with CPC is essential.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with all colleagues and internal and external stake holders.
- Must be willing to undertake training as seen fit by operations manager.
- Must have the ability to work to deadlines and be punctual.
