Job Summary:  

The Water Intern supports the water and wastewater engineering team by assisting with planning, design, and analysis of treatment systems, pipelines, and infrastructure. This role provides exposure to sustainable water solutions, regulatory compliance, and project delivery in a collaborative team environment. 

 

Primary Essential Functions:  

  • Assist in preparing technical drawings, reports, and specifications for water/wastewater systems.
  • Support calculations for pipelines, pumping systems, and treatment facilities.
  • Conduct research and data collection on environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in field visits, inspections, or data gathering as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers on ongoing projects.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):  

 

Knowledge 

  • Foundational understanding of water/wastewater engineering principles.
  • Awareness of treatment systems, hydraulics, and environmental regulations.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or modeling software.

 

Skills 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and technical writing.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

 

Abilities 

  • Ability to apply engineering fundamentals to real-world challenges.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project needs.

 

Qualifications:  

 

Required 

  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering or related field.
  • Solid academic performance in water/wastewater coursework.
  • Basic proficiency in AutoCAD or related tools.

 

Preferred 

  • Previous internship or co-op experience in water/wastewater projects.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic modeling software (EPANET, WaterGEMS, etc.).
  • Involvement in environmental or engineering student organizations.

 

 

Physical Requirements:  

  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
  • Frequent use of standard office equipment, including computers, keyboards, telephones, and printers.
  • Occasional light physical activity such as walking, standing, or carrying materials (up to 25 lbs.).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and through written communication.
