Purpose of the Position
The primary function of the Analytical Chemist is to lead, guide, and direct the analytical laboratory operations, with a strong focus on instrumentation expertise, for the Coolbaugh LaserMix specialty gas cylinder facility in coordination with Lab management and Quality functions. The person in this role is expected to develop better analytical methods, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation, and assist in integrating new analytical requirements into the facility. Additionally, the chemist will support Operations by analyzing products from gas cylinder packages and/or processes and certify individual purity, component, and critical contaminant levels as specified within customer specifications.

Principal Responsibilities
- Ensure timely throughput of compressed gas cylinder product through analytical system work queues via a well-trained and agile lab technician team
- Assist to develop, control, and maintain the Lab Scope and all associated lab documentation and procedures
- Assist to develop, update, and execute existing preventive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime
- Operate, maintain, and optimize required analytical instrumentation (GC's, FTIR's, process analyzers, standard blenders, etc.)
- Be an expert at data interpretation, validation, and replication as needed to assure integrity
- Recognize problems with analytical instrumentation and troubleshoot/assist in subsequent repair
- Accurately input and document analytical data into all necessary analytical and plant process logs
- Conforms to ISO 9001:2008 directives included but not limited to policy and procedures.
- Strictly adhere to all necessary calibration requirements within all lab operations
- Through observation of work areas, be alert to and avoid unsafe behaviors and conditions. Report any observed hazards to supervisor. Strictly adheres to all safety policies including, but not limited to HWP, ECP, JSA, and LOTO policies
- Ensure compliance with the formalized written PPE program for all laboratory activities
- Participate in ongoing continuous improvement initiatives of analytical process systems
- Crosstrain into all other lab activities and analytical systems in production operations and assist with cross-training of Lab Technicians
- Participate in analytical validation programs to establish linear and non-linear accuracy, performance verification attributes, detection, quantitation, and analytical process control limits
- Assist quality team in investigation of production defects with value-added analytical confirmation and validation support
Required Skills
- The ability to operate, validate, troubleshoot, and repair analytical instrumentation such as GC DID, and FTIR Is required (supporting specialty gases preferred)
- Experience with GC and FTIR method development and validation, instrumentation qualification, and routine system maintenance (MSA GR&R preferred)
- Ability to support the lab’s production and quality goals and continuous improvement program
- Computer Proficiency with GC/FTIR Software, NWA, Minitab, Microsoft Office (TLIMS and SAP a plus)
- A meticulous attention to detail
- Honed communication skills, verbally and in writing
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry preferred, or related science degree
- 5+ years’ direct analytical chemistry experience
