Santa Clara Unified School District serves over 15,000 TK-12 students, in addition to students in Preschool through Adult School. Neighborhoods in the Cities of Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, San Jose, and Cupertino comprise the District's 56 square-mile area. Job Description
1) Identify, through assessment, children eligible to receive special education services;
2) Participate as a member of a team to identify the needs and specific goals and objectives of each child's individual education plan;
3) Supervise, direct and engage students in activities in a classroom environment;
4) Develop programs for student's to allow for success in an educational environment and serve as a liaison to facilitate successful mainstreaming of students when appropriate;
5) Conduct informal evaluations and modify each student's curriculum;
6) Consult and articulate with staff and parents via meetings and phone, regarding the needs of students;
7) Utilize resources both within and outside the school district to facilitate student progress in both educational and social development;
8) Provide parents with appropriate instructional strategies;
9) Maintain knowledge of current regulations pertaining to special education and continue independent professional growth;
10) Maintain records, files and reports as required by federal, state, and district regulations;
11) Maintain confidentiality of all written and oral information;
12) Communicate with physicians, private schools, and community organizations regarding special education services;
13) Insure health and safety of children;
14) Assist parents to coordinate utilization of appropriate community services
Requirements / Qualifications
MATERIALS: A valid California Special Ed (Mild/Moderate) Credential is required as well as an Added Authorization in Autism. Also required is at least one of the following authorizations to teach English Learners: CTEL, CLAD, BCLAD, AB2913 training (formerly SB395 OR SB1969) or SB2042 EL Authorization. Applicants who do not have a valid credential the first day of the school year will not be considered. 30-day Substitute Credentials are NOT valid credentials for contracted positions in our district.

Special Education Teachers receive a signing bonus of $5000 phased in over three years ($1000 first year, $2000 second year, and $2000 third year)
