We are looking for a driven AI Engineer Intern to join our team and contribute to the design, prototyping, and deployment of cutting-edge AI-powered applications. In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience with cloud platforms, generative AI, agentic AI, and machine learning while building solutions that make a real business impact.

You will work with tools such as AWS Bedrock, Agentic Core, SageMaker, and LLM APIs, collaborating closely with engineers and data scientists on high-impact projects. This internship provides not only technical exposure but also mentorship, skill development, and the opportunity to work on meaningful, production-oriented challenges that will set you apart in this rapidly growing field.

Internship Details:
• Program runs from mid-May to early August
• Based at our West Des Moines office (7700 Mills Civic Parkway)
• Interviews and hiring decisions will be completed by mid-November (some as early as late September)

Accountabilities:

• Collaborate and work along side with engineers, data scientists, and product owners to design and test AI-powered solutions

• Learn how to use LLM orchestration tools like LangChain, LangGraph, and AutoGen to build intelligent agents.

• Experiment with ChatGPT Enterprise, Claude, and GitHub Copilot to prototype features, workflows, or automations.

• Collaborate with product and data teams to translate user problems into AI-backed solutions.

• Contribute to proof-of-concept projects and evaluations of tools.

• Write clean, well-documented Python code and assist in building APIs or integrations

• Experiment with different LLM prompts, fine-tuning techniques, and evaluation strategies

• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment of prototypes into test environments

• Stay curious—research new AI tools, frameworks, and best practices, and share learnings with the team

• Participate in team standups, demos, and knowledge-sharing sessions to gain exposure to real delivery practices

Qualifications and Experience:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field

• Strong programming skills in Python; familiarity with APIs, JSON, or cloud platforms is a plus

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred)

• Passionate about AI and machine learning, especially generative AI or LLMs

• Eager to learn new technologies, experiment with tools, and deliver working solutions

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Interest in insurance, finance, or applying AI to real-world business challenges

Bonus Experience (Not Required)

• Projects or coursework in LLMs, NLP, or machine learning

• Exposure to AWS, LangChain, OpenAI APIs, or other agentic AI tools

• Participation in AI hackathons, research groups, or open-source projects

• Interest or exposure to AI/ML concepts and working with LLM APIs (e.g., ChatGPT, AWS Bedrock, SageMaker)
