Summary

The site maintenance mechanic repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatics, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions 

  • Install, set up, span/calibrate, troubleshoot process, & measure ph., conductivity turbidity, instruments, sensor types, solenoids, etc...
  • Maintain and repair all support equipment: including but not limited to, boiler, air-compressors, ammonia compressors, thermal storage units, condensers, vacuum pumps, ammonia systems, air conditioning units, sewer meters, conductivity meters, water meters, etc.
  • Mastery knowledge of 120v,208/230v and 277v single phase circuits
  • Mastery knowledge of 208v/230v, 480v three phase circuits
  • Must be able to troubleshoot Avapac/powder equipment and Butter room equipment including  printers and label applicators
  • Must be able to perform precision alignment - soft foot correction, laser alignment proficient (Pending Training), understanding of coupler tolerances
  • Must be able to troubleshoot 3 phase motors- winding resistance, lubrication, and termination procedures
  • Mastery knowledge of Vacuum pumps types; principle of operation, routine maintenance, troubleshooting
  • Detailed understanding of  plant process flow
  • Mastery knowledge of Scales- printer thermal, inkjet, calibration, basic troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Detailed understanding of process equipment sanitary valves, conveyors, cip systems
  • Mastery knowledge of PLC - components and function- I/O, power supply,cpu,chassis, troubleshoot/ replace I/O cards
  • Mastery knowledge of Chart recorders - type, set up/programing, troubleshoot and board, pen motor replacement, change out
  • Detailed understanding of Dryer fire quench and burner combustion system operations, testing and troubleshooting
  • Detailed understanding of Level sensors - type, identification, set up install, troubleshoot
  • Must be proficient in rebuilding rotary valves (Airlocks) and maintain vacuum pumps
  • Detailed understanding of the UV System
  • Detailed understanding of Refrigeration - demonstrate safe operation of ammonia refrigeration equipment
  • Detailed understanding of Steam flow and process; boilers to plant, condensate, PRV's, pilot and blocking valves, carbon filters
  • Detailed understanding of how to Test/Calibrate Load Cells
  • Expert in ability to troubleshoot and repair the following: ammonia compressors, condensers, cooling towers, boilers, condensate return, air compressors, air handlers
  • Responsible for working with a minimum amount of supervision in all key areas
  • Responsible for care and safe keeping of tools supplied by CDI.
  • Responsible for reporting on a daily basis work orders and activity reports (all time is to be accountable).Required to climb stairs, ladders and work in confined spaces.
  • Employee will be subject to temperatures ranging from 50 degrees F to 130 degrees
  • Responsible for all work being done in a timely fashion and done properly.
  • Responsible for coaching and training teammates and participating in on the job, buddy training.
  • Follow all company Policies.
  • Support and enforce SQF / QA, GMP, Safety policies and procedures, and production needs. “Food Safety and Quality” are the responsibilities of this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned from level C & D requirements.
  • Use initiative and judgment in making decisions, keeping with California Dairies, Inc. best interests.

    • Computer skills are helpful.

     Education and/or Experience

    • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required. 
    • Minimum 6 years of experience with proficiency of a journey level status or equivalent

    Language Skills

    • English is required as the written and spoken language.
    • A well-modulated tonal volume is required with excellent diction skills needed.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    • Must be able to acquire and maintain a forklift operator license.
    • Must possess and maintain a first responder certificate.

    Physical Demands

    The physical requirements outlined here represent those necessary for successful performance of this position's core responsibilities.     • Sitting/Standing/Walking Each workday, the maintenance mechanic will do all three. Must be able to stand on feet for at least a two-hour consecutive time period and up to 8-12 hours.
    • Lifting/Carrying: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic lifts up to 55 pounds on a repetitive basis. Employee will be expected, each workday to carry 60 pounds on a repetitive basis.  Occasional lifting/carrying above 60 pounds may be required as well.
    • Pushing/Pulling: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic frequently pushes and pulls up to, but not limited to, 60 pounds in a repetitive manner.
    • Bending/Stooping: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic will bend and stoop often.
    • Squatting/Kneeling/Crawling: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic will sometimes squat. Occasional kneeling/crawling may be required.
    • Twisting/Turning: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic will often twist and turn while carrying.
    • Climbing/Balancing: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic will occasionally climb and/or balance.
    • Reaching: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic will frequently reach in a repetitive manner.
    • Grasping/Manipulating: Each workday, the maintenance mechanic will frequently grasp and manipulate in a repetitive manner.

    Equipment 

    • General knowledge of manufacturing equipment and processes.
    • Personal protective equipment including, but not limited to hearing protection, bump caps, hair and beard nets, gloves, and safety glasses must be used in the performance of duties. Proper lifting techniques must be employed at all times.
