This position is primarily for educational or religious purposes and should be used for providing valuable educational experiences for the Intern. It is to give the Intern an opportunity to see how principles and practices learned in their educational institutions are applied in actual work setting. Under general supervision, the Intern performs work as assigned by the department. Candidates must be based in the Wasatch Front, UT.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare metadata for digital records to be published on FamilySearch.org platforms
  • Perform data analysis and investigate/resolve data-related inquiries
  • Collaborate on, implement, and adhere to internal image and metadata quality standards in FamilySearch.org historical record databases
  • Train volunteers and employees on tools and processes, including regular feedback
  • Work with volunteers and missionaries on assigned tasks
  • Meet regularly with cross-functional teams to maintain quality and process standards and guidelines, resolve issues, and coordinate projects
  • Research localities and their history
  • Enter quality metadata for digital historical records to facilitate patron research

Qualifications

Recently completed or currently working toward a professional degree in information sciences, family history/genealogy, linguistics, history, or a related field. Paid Interns are qualified while enrolled in an educational institution and for one year following graduation. They must sign a Paid Internship Engagement Letter.

  • Read/write/speak Arabic, Czech, Portuguese, or Ukrainian
  • Possess familiarity with historical records and reading old handwriting
  • Possess some skill/knowledge in preparing training materials
  • Possess interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a local and distributed workforce to organize and monitor projects
  • Perform data analysis and research
  • Keep confidences and appropriately deal with sensitive data and documents
  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of department processes and operations
  • Use standard desktop software including Microsoft Office apps
  • Use the Family History Library Catalog and FamilySearch.org resources
  • Possess typing experience with keyboards in other languages
