POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the direction of the Program Director and in collaboration with Sports Instructors, the Sports Coordinator organizes and runs our youth and adult basketball leagues and sports programs, teaches 2-3 of the youth afternoon sport classes, assists in the registration process.

  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

ADULT SPORTS 

  1. Oversees adult leagues. Provides communication to all participants of the league concerning scheduling, team records, payments, and post season. 
  2. Collects team fees, rosters, and waivers. 
  3. Issues YMCA league rules and league uniforms. 
  4. Ensures proper equipment and gym time for adults. 
  5. Develops and implement fundraising events involving adults, as well as, develop a rapport with adult members to find their needs. 
  6. Ensures ongoing communication to all participants and parents concerning all events and changes in the gym. 
  7. Overseeing referees, basketball coaches, and gym supervisors 

YOUTH & PRESCHOOL SPORTS 

  1. Conducts afternoon youth sports classes while following the National YMCA youth sports philosophy. 
  2. Prepares an organized lesson plan for each class which provides students with a productive, positive learning experience through the teaching of skills, rules, and teamwork in each sport. 
  3. Assists in the administration of registration for class enrollment, as well as the communication to all families participating in our programs/teams.  
  4. Hire, train, onboard and coach assigned Sports program staff and instructors  
  5. Supervise all assigned sports program staff and oversees day to day program administration  
  6. Handles all uniform orders, league registrations, & scheduling.  
  7. Conducts visual checks of activity areas on a daily basis for safety factors that may affect students and members. 
  8. Secures, maintains, stores, and updates all sports equipment as necessary. 
  9. Assists in creating new programs and bringing new ideas to support program growth and development. 
  10. Demonstrates the ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional relationships, interpersonal skills to interact effectively with individuals and groups regarding social and cultural diversity and the competency and flexibility to carry out job responsibilities as assigned. 
  11. Support the overall membership of the branch by conducting gymnasium facility tours 
  12. Partner with Program Director to work towards achieving YMCA annual campaign department goals. 
  13. Assisting in monitoring class enrollment and meeting budget target goals for enrollment and revenue  
  14. Performs other duties as assigned and during shift down time. 

SUMMER CAMP 

  1. Serves as summer camp sports coordinator during the 10-week camp season.  
  2. Assists with the development of a curriculum for the summer sports camp and assist in supervision of camp staff and participate in daily camp activities. 
  3. Assists in training staff for summer sports camp. 
  4. Assists in developing schedule of daily activities, session themes, and field trips. 
  5. Assists with development of camp brochure, registration, and schedules. 
  6. Provides communication to all participants and parents of the sports camp via weekly schedules, daily updates, and administer roster changes on a seasonal basis.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. B.A/B.S. in physical education or a related field, or its equivalent in education and /or experience 
  2. At least 1 years of experience working with children in a youth sports environment and knowledge of coordinating and structuring leagues and special events 
  3. Knowledge of various skills and rules of sports 
  4. Knowledge of computer software applications related to YMCA program registration and Microsoft Office 
  5. Must have flexibility in work schedule and expectations to work evenings and weekends.
