Job Overview
The Loan Officer Assistant (LOA) works directly with and supports the loan origination staff (loan officers, CLOs, MAs, sales director, etc.). By working collaboratively with the loan origination staff and processing team, a successful LOA must have current product knowledge of loan programs and must be able to communicate loan requirements with loan applicants, processors and loan officers.
The LOA responds to applicant inquiries generated from the sales staff and works with applicants to gather any additional required information. The incumbent must have the ability to qualify borrowers based on Citadel underwriting standards, think independently and promote the Citadel brand. The LOA ensures exceptional customer service by maintaining thorough knowledge of lending programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, demonstrating a commitment to professional ethics while complying with all Federal and State compliance.
Responsibilities
- Communicates with the applicant(s), real estate agents and title companies at the start of the application process.
- Collects customer documentation necessary to complete the loan transaction, such as income documentation, asset statements and initial disclosures documents.
- Assists loan originators with preapprovals and loan structuring.
- Assists loan originators with loan pricing options/support and managing lock expiration dates.
- Updates all parties with status of loan transaction as necessary.
- Ordering of standard loan requirements and verifications such as, escrow, verification of employments, verification of assets etc.
- Utilizes Citadel training materials, reference tools and other resources to provide accurate and up-to-date loan program/policy information to both external customers and internal business partners.
- Provide professional and personalized service to our internal and external members by being courteous and respectful in all dealings.
- Follow the mortgage application throughout the process by, communicating with the processors, underwriters, closers, real estate agents and title companies.
- Stay abreast of all available mortgage products and underwriting guidelines.
- Have a thorough understanding of mortgage lending regulations.
- Enter loans into Encompass and properly disclose all applications within three days of receipt of application.
- Comprehend the information in the title insurance commitment, appraisal, and credit report.
- Calculate Private Mortgage Insurance premiums, pro-rate taxes and insurance for escrow accounts.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Demonstrate proficient product knowledge of FHA, VA, USDA, Conventional and other loan programs such as Home Equity Lines of Credit, 2nd Mortgages and PMI.
- Ability to analyze tax returns and accurately calculate income for all types of borrowers.
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, customer service, and communication with customer, processor and LO
- Proficient with Encompass
- Understanding of compliance regulations and investor guidelines.
- Has knowledge of commonly used terminology, concepts and practices and procedures within the mortgage industry.
- Ability to meet time deadlines while working under pressure.
- Ability to effectively handle simultaneous tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to effectively and efficiently work independently or as a member of a team.
- Education: Two or more years' recent mortgage operations, underwriting and/or processing experience.
- Current hands-on loan officer assistant, processing or underwriting experience.
- Technical Knowledge: Microsoft Office, and experience with mortgage loan origination systems (Encompass) preferred.
- Proficient with automated underwriting systems such DU, LPA, TOTAL Scorecard and GUS.
