JOB SUMMARY: |
The Program Director reports directly to the Camp Director and may manage the camp in the absence of the Camp Director. To further the camp's mission through recruiting, planning, and delivering program activities, rentals, and special events. Design and deliver program activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers' age and abilities. Assist in managing the overall camp operation at the direction of the Camp Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: |
Camp Supervision & Management
- Recruit Club Campers to attend summer and weekend events.
- Develop creative and safe programs that are tailored to different age groups and ensure their implementation through training and supervision.
- Assists the Camp Director in managing various aspects of the camp including staff, events, and guests.
- Recruits and trains staff to deliver exceptional camp experiences while ensuring adherence to safety regulations and emergency procedures.
- Creates and executes exciting events that foster a strong camp community spirit.
- Builds friendly and collaborative relationships between staff, volunteers, campers, and the public.
LINK & Camp Program Execution
- Recruit Teens and Lead L.I.N.K Program.
- Ensure lesson plans are prepared and implemented to meet program outcomes.
- Deliver progressive and relevant program activities.
- Coordinate & lead all camp programs and campfire activities with other staff and volunteers.
- Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, supporting and guiding those assigned as leaders.
- Deliver and supervise camp activities: Participate as a staff member to supervise and run evening programs, special events, overnights, and other camp activities.
- Provide program ideas and offer creative program ideas to counselors and activity area staff.
- Help Clubs with member-centered orientation programs, parent meetings, and parent engagement initiatives.
Safety & Facility
- Ensures a Safe and Fun Environment: Works to implement and enforce the organization's safety regulations and emergency procedures to keep program areas safe and well-maintained. Will be responsible for cleaning program areas, keeping them clean and organized.
- Leads Program Activities: Plans and delivers engaging programs that are safe, fun, and appropriate for the campers' age and abilities.
- Manages Camp Operations: Assists the Camp Director with overall camp operations, potentially assuming leadership responsibilities in their absence.
- Observes and Assesses Behavior: Monitors staff and camper behavior to enforce safety rules and take appropriate disciplinary actions.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: |
Education
- Bachelor's Degree: A bachelor's degree is preferred, but a substitute education for experience is acceptable. Six (6) years of professional experience in youth development, education, or a related field is required.
Experience
- A minimum of two years' work experience directly with youth in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization, managing full-time/part-time staff and planning activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
- Familiarity with American Camp Association (ACA) guidelines for camp operations.
- A minimum of two years’ work experience at an outdoor day camp or residential camp.
- Flexibility to work residential camp hours. Typical hours range up to 14 hours plus days.
- Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate youth programs through creative collaboration with others. This has resulted in delivering high-quality programs to both the club and potential members.
Skills
- Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills. P.C. literate in M.S. Office.
- Demonstrated ability to train, orient, and recognize staff, volunteers, and outside resources.
- Demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, in presentations to an audience, and electronically.
- Demonstrated ability to control expenses and creatively use resources.
- Demonstrated ability to promote programs and deliver the same persuasively.
- Demonstrated ability to handle crises and resolve conflicts, disputes, or concerns among staff, Club members, contractors, and volunteers.
ENVIRONMENT & WORKING CONDITIONS: |
Normal internal office environment with occasional need to travel to club locations within the Metro Atlanta area. Frequent internal contacts with employees throughout organization required.
EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION: |
Nonexempt employees are entitled, under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), to time and one-half their "regular rate" of pay for each hour they actually work over the applicable FLSA overtime threshold in the applicable FLSA work period.
Exempt employees are not entitled, under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), to the protections of the wage and hour laws of the state or the FLSA. Exempt employees must always be paid on a salary basis and not be subject to reduction based on the quality or quantity of work performed.
