Job Summary
Position responsible for developing, providing, and coordinating direct staff education, indirect patient education, orientation training, and development of curriculum and individual learning plans and monitoring staff.Job Description
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. Master's Degree in related field required.
Licenses/Certifications: Registered Nurse (RN) required. Nursing Specialty Certification required; Nursing Professional Development (NPD) certification preferred; Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
Two (2) years nursing experience required.
Three (3) years' experience in nursing clinical education and professional development environment, required.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Develops, designs, and delivers educational programs focused on specialized areas of nursing practice (e.g., oncology, pediatrics, critical care).
Provides both formal and informal training sessions, including workshops, seminars, and one-on-one mentoring to nursing staff.
Updates and refines training materials and educational resources to reflect the latest evidence-based practices and advancements in the specialized field.
Conducts assessments to identify the educational needs of nursing staff within the specialized area, based on current practices, emerging trends, and clinical gaps.
Works with clinical leadership to align educational initiatives with the needs of the healthcare organization and regulatory standards.
Provides mentorship, guidance, and clinical support to nurses within the specialized field to improve their skills and confidence in patient care.
Acts as a subject matter expert, offering advice and problem-solving assistance in complex clinical scenarios within the specialized area.
Designs and updates curricula and training materials that are tailored to the specific needs of nursing staff in the specialized area.
Incorporates current research, best practices, and evidence-based guidelines into training programs.
Develops educational resources, including manuals, online modules, and clinical guidelines, to support nursing practice in the specialized field.
Assesses nursing staff competencies in the specialized area through direct observation, simulation, or testing to ensure high standards of care.
Provides feedback and coaching to help nurses improve their clinical skills, knowledge, and decision-making.
Promotes the ongoing professional development of nursing staff by identifying opportunities for advanced education, certifications, and specialized training in the designated area of practice.
Encourages and supports nurses to participate in professional development activities, conferences, and workshops related to their specialty.
Works closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure education is aligned with the clinical needs and goals of the department or organization.
Acts as a liaison between nursing staff and management to communicate educational needs and the effectiveness of training programs.
Fosters collaboration and teamwork among nurses to enhance patient care and professional learning.
Assists in the development, implementation, and dissemination of clinical policies, procedures, and protocols within the specialized area.
Educates nursing staff on new or updated clinical policies and ensures proper adherence.
Stays current on research, clinical trials, and new techniques relevant to the specialized area of nursing.
Incorporates evidence-based practices into education programs and encourages nurses to engage in research and best practice implementation in their clinical roles.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as a resource to less experienced staff.
