Duties & Responsibilities:(** denotes essential functions):
- **Design and coordinate summer institutes and field schools, including planning, recruitment, logistics, and student support.
- **Design and coordinate peer mentorship program for Maui to Manoa bridge activities, including teacher preparation in both English and Hawaiian programs.
- **Plan and coordinate student workshops for the Maui to Manoa bridge activities in both English and Hawaiian.
- **Design and coordinate University of Hawaii Maui College (UHMC) education pathways activities, including high school bridge, substitute teacher training, and teacher professional development.
- **Develop and coordinate student internship opportunities in both English and Hawaiian.
- **Design and implement two to four-year pathways for students in teacher education programs.
- **Compile and manage program data.
- **Supervision of Student Peer Tutors
- Responsible for the entire hiring process of peer tutors, including but not limited to developing job descriptions, posting/advertising, interviewing, evaluating, and overall communication with applicants and administration.
- Coordinates scheduling work hours and oversees work, training, and professional development activities for student peer tutors.
- Schedules and coordinates training for student peer tutors using the resources of the UHMC in customer service that includes dealing with difficult/disruptive behavior, tutoring, mentoring, and compliance (e.g., FERPA, Title IX, EEO).
- Supervises and guides the student peer tutors as needed.
- Provides technical training on the basic use of a Personal computer and Macintosh Computers (PC & MAC) and the use of various software programs that are available to students.
- Designs and implements peer tutoring programs that support UHMC faculty and overall student success, and monitors said programs to provide suggestions to better achieve the goals of this program.
- **Coordinate Student Resource Centers &Labs
- Assist with arranging and coordinating activities and services offered through student support services
- **Coordinate UHMC Campus Collaborations & Connections (including Maui Community)
- Identifies student and faculty needs and develops and implements support services that support students.
- Collaborates with available campus resources and the community to increase academic success to provide wrap-around services to Native Hawaiian (NH)students.
- Works with faculty and staff to recommend and/or establish student success strategies and services.
- **Reporting
- Tracks, evaluates, and assesses lab usage, peer tutoring, and all other lab services that support persistence, retention, and success.
- Collects, organizes, compiles, and manages data and submits reports on lab services.
- Attends weekly meetings with the larger team to inform them of general plans, progress of student peer tutors and resource center, and develop ongoing programs and initiatives.
- Prepares other reports as needed.
- **Engage in research and participate in professional development related to student and instructional support services and student success.
- Applies new knowledge and skills to improve the overall performance and functions of the support center and student peer tutors.
- **Address problems of a complex nature using independent judgment and creativity.
- **Approach all duties and responsibilities listed above to meet grant goals and objectives.
- Activity 1: Improve and expand applied multi-disciplinary research and networking opportunities for Native Hawaiian (NH) students, faculty, and staff (and community) at the UHMC.

- Increase opportunities for networking among NH students, faculty, staff, and community (1.3)
- Activity 2: Improve and expand Native Hawaiian academic access between the UHMC and the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
- Activity 1: Improve and expand applied multi-disciplinary research and networking opportunities for Native Hawaiian (NH) students, faculty, and staff (and community) at the UHMC.

Education and Professional Work Experience
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Hawaiian Studies, Language, OR Education or a related field AND two (2) years of progressively responsible experience with responsibilities for Student Support Activities including Counseling, Advising, Workshop, Service OR Program Development; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Functional knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in the area of Student Support Services as demonstrated by knowledge, understanding, and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
- Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and systems associated with Student Support Services.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes, and resolve the full range of problems that may commonly occur in the area of Student Support Services.
- Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members, and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
Supplemental Minimum Qualifications:
- Oral and written fluency in the Hawaiian language at the level required to facilitate training, classes, and workshops for Hawaiian language immersion teacher candidates and schools.
- Experience working in bilingual (English and Hawaiian) college-level student support services and Native Hawaiian Programming.
