Summary:

The Chicago Tribune is seeking a skilled and empathetic reporter for a six-month paid internship beginning in July 2025. This isn't a desk job, you'll be on the front lines as a key member of our Emerging News Desk, covering stories that matter to the people of Chicago.

What You'll Do

• Break news and write impactful Page One stories that resonate with Chicago readers

• Uncover hidden gems and develop compelling long-form enterprise stories

• Cover sensitive topics with maturity and a deep understanding of complex issues

• Work in a fast-paced environment, often covering major stories from day one

• Establish and hone your writing craft, producing stories that "sing" and captivate a wide audience

What We're Looking For

• A journalist with a track record of at least one prior internship at a daily news organization

• Someone who knows how to navigate sensitive conversations with sources, building trust and respect

• Fluency in a second language is a plus

• A go-getter with the drive to find and break stories that others miss

Benefits and Compensation:

The hourly wage is $16.20. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility). Conditions of Employment: 

• A full pre-employment background check, and MVR will be conducted as part of the selection process. Must be willing to submit and pass the necessary required checks

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation

• Travel – This position entails occasional driving for work assignments, training sessions, and/or meetings. The employee will be responsible for transporting themselves between different sites as needed
