Are you a skilled Histotechnologist or Pathology Assistant passionate about making a direct impact in the field of transplantation? Our organization is seeking a Per Diem Histotechnologist or Pathology Assistant to join our team of medical professionals dedicated to saving lives through organ and tissue donation.
As a vital member of our mobile pathology team, you will help support organ donor evaluations by preparing tissue slides and pathology specimens at donor locations. Using state-of-the-art mobile slide preparation technology, you will bring lab-quality histology services directly to the field, enabling faster decisions and better outcomes for transplant recipients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Travel to donor recovery sites in Sacramento and Santa Rosa California and prepare high-quality histological slides for rapid evaluation.
- Perform gross dissection, tissue embedding, sectioning, and staining using portable histology equipment.
- Collaborate closely with pathologists, transplant surgeons, and clinical staff to support time-sensitive donor assessments.
- Maintain rigorous standards for specimen identification, handling, and documentation in compliance with regulatory and OPO guidelines.
- Operate and troubleshoot mobile slide preparation platforms and digital imaging tools.
- Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives related to mobile pathology services.
- Provide on call availability with an ability to respond within 4 hours of notification
Qualifications:
- Required: Certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL or HT, ASCP) or experience as a Pathology Assistant (PA).
- At least 2 years of experience in a clinical or surgical pathology environment preferred.
- Strong technical skills in tissue processing, microtomy, and staining techniques.
- Familiarity with digital pathology or mobile lab platforms is a plus.
- Ability to work independently in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including availability for nights, weekends, and on-call shifts.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
