Responsibilities
- Teach, train, coach and instruct student-athletes in the sports of cross country and track & field;
- Assist the head coach in successfully recruiting capable student-athletes that are compatible with the institution;
- Assist the head coach in creating, implementing and administering methods of instruction, measurements and testing of the learning potential and the achievement of student-athletes;
- Assist the head coach in scheduling all competition against recognized and respected colleges and universities;
- Assist the head coach in scheduling and administering efficient, effective, well-organized practice sessions;
- Assist the head coach and athletic trainers in handling injuries and emergencies;
- Assist the head coach in employing strategies that enable student-athletes to graduate from the College in four years and to pursue rewarding careers;
- Engage in successful community relations within the college community;
- Establish a positive opinion of the Flagler running program within the city of St. Augustine, the state of Florida, and on the national level;
- Communicate (when appropriate) with students, parents, and Flagler personnel to determine student-athlete eligibility or ineligibility to participate;
- Maintain regular office hours throughout the calendar year and attend college events as available;
- Maintain a positive, enthusiastic approach toward duties and the College;
- Encourage retention of student-athletes;
- Assist head coach in organizing and implementing at least one team fundraiser during the course of the academic year;
- Assist head coach in remedying any unsatisfactory circumstances that may occur;
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the director of athletics, head coach, or other College administrator.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree;
- 2 years’ collegiate coaching experience.
CHARACTERISTICS PREFERRED

- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively;
- Strong work ethic;
- Positive, enthusiastic approach to job responsibilities;
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team, placing departmental and institutional priorities above personal advancement.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree;
- 5 years’ collegiate coaching experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work is performed on a track, outdoors in the St. Augustine area, in the fitness center, or in a classroom/office setting.
- Travel is required for competition and recruiting.
- Early mornings, evenings, and weekends are required.
- Essential functions include lifting, manual dexterity, large motor skills, and effective communication.
- Physical requirements:
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds.
- Continuous lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 10–20 pounds.
- Requires use of memory for details and ability to follow verbal instructions.
