SMG seeks a Safety Advisor - Owner's Rep in Lebanon, Indiana.


The key function of a Safety Advisor is to prioritize safety at the forefront of their job, put the client's needs first, work effectively in a team setting, be self-managed, and remain flexible in the face of change.


 GI Commissioning and Qualification:  

  • Hands-on experience in understanding utility and facility work.
  • Partner with site operations team to review management controls for safe start-up.      
  • Manage checklists and multi-stage verifications associated with new operations. 
  • Identify potential issues and mitigate risks within the early stages of start-up. 
  • Participate in PSSR and mechanical completion walk throughs .

Site Safety Activities: 

  • Provide assistance, as an extension to the team, with fulfilling requirements, GHSE requests, and maintain audit readiness. 
  • Serve as a liaison with area stakeholders. 
  • Maintain regular reporting of site activities. 
  • Review job tasks for site employees to help identify risks and participate in project team meetings. 
  • Partner with Project Safety Coordinator to support a safe work environment. 

Program Management (Creation & Implementation): 

  • When requested, coordinate and support the site with developing the programs, procedures and training needed for site operations.

Risk Assessments:      

  • Conduct work site visits to mitigate safety risks and confirm controls are in place. 
  • Review related permits issued and spot check work plans to ensure proper execution and alignment with client and OSHA standards. 

Continuous Improvement: 

  • Service as an HSE resource to all employees with understanding of client and OSHA policies. 
  • Support continuous improvement opportunities within the safety program, enhancing safety culture and operational efficiency with a special emphasis on the LIFE aspects.

Requirements

  • 5 years of previous Construction Safety experience
  • Degree in Safety or related field, preferred
  • Previous Commissioning experience
  • Previous Facility start-up experience
  • OSHA 30

Physical Demands of the job may include:

  • Moving about long distances
  • Ascending/descending stairs and ladders
  • Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period
  • Working in extreme weather
  • Being exposed to loud noises
  • Wearing personal protective gear correctly
