Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Data Architecture, the Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure that enables the capture, processing, and analysis of critical data across systems at the College of the Holy Cross. This includes developing and managing data pipelines, integrating diverse data sources, and ensuring the performance, security, and reliability of data solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong software development skills, a problem-solving mindset, and a passion for creating scalable data architectures that support both operational effectiveness and strategic planning.
Major Areas of Responsibility
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and workflows using platforms such as AWS and Workato.
  • Integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple sources into centralized repositories, including Snowflake-based data warehouses.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support analytics, business intelligence, and institutional research needs.
  • Create and manage ETL/ELT processes to ensure timely, accurate, and secure data transformation and delivery.
  • Monitor data infrastructure for performance, availability, and data integrity, and implement systems for logging, alerting, and quality control.
  • Support the development of data models that align with business requirements through dimensional modeling, fact/dimension tables, and metadata documentation.
  • Assist in maintaining data governance protocols, including metadata catalogs and access control mechanisms.
  • Partner with IT security, cloud engineering, and data architecture teams to ensure infrastructure reliability and compliance with security standards.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or related discipline; or completion of coding bootcamp (e.g. Codesmith, Devmountain, Tech Elevator, etc.); or equivalent work experience
  • Strong proficiency with SQL and scripting languages such as Python.
  • Experience with basic computer programming/scripting languages.
  • Experience with git and other development tools.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling techniques, ETL/ELT pipelines, and processing of structured and semi-structured data.
  • Familiarity with metadata management tools, data catalogs, and data dictionaries.
  • Experience implementing observability practices for data pipelines and cloud infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience developing in AWS environments and working with Snowflake data platforms preferred
  • Experience integrating systems and automating workflows with tools like Workato preferred
  • Exposure to data science and machine learning infrastructure preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across analytics, IT, and academic functional areas.
  • Knowledge of best practices in data security and compliance within cloud-based environments.

Additional information:
This is a full time, exempt level position with a salary range of $92,000-$103,000. The College is committed to providing competitive market pay for its employees.  The College also offers a competitive benefits package for full-time staff, including:
  • 10% College contribution to the 403(b) Retirement Plan (1 year wait waiver available)

  • This position may be eligible for a remote work arrangement; however, upon hire, candidates must reside in Massachusetts.
