Legal Counsel (Litigation Team) – 5 Month Contract
About the role:
Marsh McLennan is seeking a qualified solicitor (3-5 years’ experience) for a 5 month contract position within our Litigation Team based in Sydney. Experience in financial services, insurance broking and/or superannuation is preferred. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking for a short-term role and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. You will work alongside experienced legal professionals in a global organisation.
What you can expect:
- Work independently within a dynamic litigation team supporting the insurance and superannuation businesses.
- Gain exposure to insurance and superannuation matters.
- Manage a variety of contentious matters including litigation, subpoena responses, document reviews, client and regulatory matters, and general matter management.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external counsel to deliver timely and effective legal support.
- Assist with drafting legal opinions, matter summaries, reports, and training materials.
- The role reports to the Chief Litigation Counsel-Pacific.

Key responsibilities:
- Assist with litigation and dispute resolution matters related to insurance and superannuation.
- Review and draft responses to client and regulatory complaints.
- Conduct legal research and provide regulatory advice.
- Maintain legal registers, prepare reports, and manage document workflows.
- Support the development and scheduling of training sessions.
- Perform other legal duties as directed by the manager.
What You Need to Have:
- Law degree and hold a practising certificate in Australia.
- Proactive, highly organised, and able to work autonomously under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent drafting, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines efficiently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
