About the Department
Your day will consist of performing preventative maintenance checks and repairs on county heavy trucks and equipment; performing road tests on vehicles. In addition, this position performs essential snow and ice control operations and will be on a 24 hour on-call status. The regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 am until 3:00 pm.
Position Duties
• Ability to perform work of considerable difficulty as a participating worker within the operations of the Welding Shop.
• Must be dedicated to quality, efficiency, and service.
• Participate in winter operations.
• Bill out parts on work orders using fleet maintenance software.
• Customer service oriented.
• Provide assistance of specifications for purchasing equipment, shop tools, trucks, v box, and snow plows.
• Perform all duties in accordance with County safety code and established safe work practices.
Minimum Qualifications
• Strong communication skills
• Knowledge and experience of Peterbilt, Force America, International, John Deere, Freightliner, and Case
• Knowledge of equipment electronic system diagnostics, installation and removal.
• Knowledge of wire welders, “stick” type welders, and oxygen and acetylene, and metal fabricating
• Machining-general knowledge of vertical end mill and lathe
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems, hose replacement and fabrication
• Knowledge of machine shop tools and equipment
• Knowledge of GPS and Radios (Starcom), installation and removal
• Ability to operate single axle trucks, tandem axle trucks, and semi tractors with standard and automatic transmissions
Education and/ or Other Requirements:
• Completion of a standard high school program or equivalent
• Three years or more of education and/or training
• Three to five years of experience in dealership, truck, or welding/fabrication shop
• A Class B CDL with air brakes or ability to obtain within six months of hire is required
• Class A CDL and ASE Certification are preferred
• Must have basic mechanics tools up to 1".
Physical Requirements:
• Individual should have the ability to perform difficult physical labor and to regularly lift and/or carry objects weighing 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds
• The position is exposed to extreme heat and/or cold; wet or humid conditions; extreme noise levels; vibration; fumes and/or noxious odors; traffic; moving machinery; electrical shock; and other extreme hazards
• Ability to work long hours day or night
