Job Summary 

The People Systems & Payroll Manager is responsible for the strategic management, optimization, and integration of the organization’s people systems and payroll operations. This role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of team member data, the seamless execution of payroll, and the delivery of insights that support strategic people and business decisions. Partnering closely with People Team leaders, Finance, and IT, this position drives process improvements, enhances technology capabilities, and ensures an exceptional experience for team members across the organization. 

Key Responsibilities 

People Systems Management 

- Serve as the system administrator and subject matter expert for the HRIS platform, ensuring accurate configuration, data integrity, and streamlined processes.

- Lead the implementation of new features or modules, system upgrades, and integrations with related systems (ATS, LMS, timekeeping, benefits administration, etc.). 

- Maintain process documentation, system configurations, and governance standards. 

- Partner with the People Team to expand team member and manager self-service capabilities. 

Payroll Leadership

- Oversee and execute end-to-end payroll processing for all team members, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with multi-state and federal regulations. 

- Maintain current knowledge of payroll tax laws, wage and hour laws, and regulatory requirements; implement necessary changes to processes and systems. 

- Lead year-end payroll activities, including tax filings, reconciliations, and W-2 processing. 

- Manage payroll system configurations to align with changes in compensation, benefits, and timekeeping data. 

Data, Reporting & Analytics

- Develop and manage dashboards, reports, and analytics for payroll and people data. 

- Partner with Finance to support labor cost analysis, headcount reporting, and workforce planning. 

- Conduct regular audits to ensure team member data accuracy and compliance. 

Compliance & Security 

- Maintain role-based security access for all people systems and payroll platforms. 

- Ensure compliance with internal policies, data privacy regulations, and audit requirements. 

Team & Vendor Management

- Supervise and develop People Systems and Payroll staff. 

- Manage relationships with HRIS, payroll, and related vendors, ensuring service quality and issue resolution. 

- Lead projects that improve system capabilities, automation, and process efficiency. 

Qualifications Education & Experience 

- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Information Systems, or related field. 

- 5+ years of experience in HRIS and payroll functions including HRIS systems administration, HR analytics/reporting, and translating HR processes into system requirements and solutions. 

- Demonstrated experience managing multi-state payroll and HRIS administration. 

Technical Skills 

- Advanced proficiency in HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., ADP, UKG, Workday, Paycom). 

- Strong Excel/data analysis skills; familiarity with SQL or BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau). 

- In-depth knowledge of payroll tax filing, garnishments, and compliance requirements.

- Strong analytical skills and continuous improvement mindset; ability to translate and use data to design solutions. 

- Discretion in handling sensitive team member data. 

- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and partner effectively across the business. 

-Strong understanding of human resource policies, procedures and HR workflows. 

- Strong technical support skills focused on serving and enabling internal customers. 

Preferred Qualifications

- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC). 

- HRIS-specific certifications (e.g., Workday Pro, ADP Certified Specialist). 

- Experience in manufacturing or multi-site environments
