JOB TITLE: Insurance Verification Specialist - TEMP POSITION
DEPARTMENT: Insurance & Billing
SUMMARY: The Insurance Verification Specialist assists patients with benefits and communicates with insurance companies regarding claims. Works with patients to resolve financial challenges and maintains a healthy aging accounts receivable.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Study insurance plans used most frequently with patients to understand the various nuances to communicate more effectively.
- Verify insurance benefits.
- Handle all inquiries concerning insurance daily.
- Post payments daily.
- Process refunds for patients.
- Document basic insurance information in the patient’s file for quick reference.
- Correspond with insurance companies to resolve payment delays, requests for additional information, or to discuss denied treatment coverage.
- Send information as requested by insurance companies such as x-rays, charting, narratives, and other documentation for processing the claim when applicable.
- Provides insurance predetermination documentation to patients; contact the patient to make financial arrangements, and schedule treatment.
- Process and submit claims daily.
- Monitor and follow-up on outstanding claims.
- Identify patients in the daily schedule who are a financial concern, notate payment problems on the patient’s chart, and arrange a conference with them before the time of the appointment.
- Make financial calls and record all financial discussions with patients in their file.
- Follow through with correspondence regarding collection when unable to contact the patient on the phone.
- Solidify the financial agreement with the patient, such as payment amount and payment schedule.
- Complete all other duties as assigned by Management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma and 2 - 3 years’ prior experience or training.
- Associate's Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred, or 1 – 2 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience with Orthodontic Insurance Billing and Benefits.
- Computer skills preferred: Dolphin, mConsent, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Microsoft Outlook & Excel
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Continually required to sit, utilize hand and finger dexterity and talk or hear.
- While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet
- The employee must occasionally lift and /or move 5-10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
