Position Summary:
Reporting to the Product Safety and Quality Assurance Manager, the Quality & Environment Coordinator will play a key role in supporting and executing Darling International Canada Inc.'s vision for Product Safety and Quality Assurance (PSQA), as well as the environment. The role will be to provide environmental and AQSP expertise to the site management. The role is primarily to ensure the effective implementation, re-evaluation and maintenance of site-level HACCP plans, laboratory programs and environmental compliance.
POSITION TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage quality programs for co-manufacturing partners, including product testing and product non-conformance tracking
- Oversee the implementation, verification, re-evaluation, maintenance and storage of and inedible HACCP plans, prerequisite programs and supporting documentation
- Monitor and verify product safety programs and facility practices, and take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of HACCP systems
- Primarily liaise with CFIA/MAPAQ inspectors, third-party auditors, customers and raw material suppliers on PSQA matters
- Participate in internal audits conducted annually by the company's AQSP team
- Manage training for operations, maintenance and logistics personnel on HACCP program requirements, including changes and updates, for hourly and salaried employees
- Ensure timely follow-up and completion of root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for internal audits, external audits, non-conformances and complaints
- Ensure that responses to supplier non-conformities are issued, tracked, controlled, managed, and communicated to raw material suppliers and co-manufacturers
- Manage weekly and monthly HACCP/quality meetings with site and company teams to communicate program updates, non-conformances and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Ensure that all issues related to product safety and quality are promptly reported to the company's PSQA team
- Ensure the implementation of federal/provincial/municipal environmental regulations applicable to site operations
- Acts as the primary liaison with ECCC and MELCCFP inspectors, third-party auditors, and consultants on environmental related topics
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual - French/English written and spoken
- University degree in chemistry, microbiology, science, environmental science, agricultural management and/or related field
- A minimum of one to three years of experience in a quality assurance, regulatory and/or environmental area preferred
- Understanding of the HACCP system and its application to manufacturing
- Experience working in the food processing or agricultural processing sector is an asset

- Must be able to walk short distances (factory environment)
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 70 lbs
- Must be able to speak, listen and speak clearly on the phone
- Must be able to stand for up to 30-45 minutes at a time
- Ability to keep up with physically demanding tasks such as repetitive bending, pulling, pushing, lifting, etc
- Walking, standing and moving for extended periods of time
- The position includes the use of computer systems in the factory and office
- Typical of a food manufacturing plant environment including a high volume of raw material odors and changing temperature conditions
- Climbing metal stairs, ability to stretch and see difficult areas, moving in confined spaces, etc
- Moderate to high noise level
